Need help! STOCK MARKET

I Invested in a company last year which symbol name was "IDWD" i held it for a while and supposedly if i held it to a certain date i would recieve a dividend.

I held it and passed the dividend date - then i sold it. month by month a new news report would keep coming say how its delayed for various reasons. Finally on december 8th a article came out saying they would release the divy on new years worth 2.35 per share.

Now i own 5,000 shares so i should be seeing 11,750$ in my account. In my account i see...

HLS WORLDWIDE INC RESTRICTED-CAD 5000 $0.00 $0.00 N/A

So i searched the stock again and it has dropped to around 0.44 to what originally was over a dollar and now they have no recent news for 2 months now, it's been almost a full year and still no divy. Can anyone explain, thanks!

Something went horribly wrong and they decided not to give out a dividend.

are they allowed to do that legally? It was really harsh to hold the stock for so long because they claimed to be giving out a dividend.

I guess if they aren't giving it out, lesson learned.

I'm not too sure about all the legal stuff but I don't think companies are required to give out a dividend during the good times. If its a bad time for the company, then giving out a dividend could make the directors liable if they gave out a dividend if they should not or could not afford to. There's a term for this I can't remember.

So basically they are allowed to say they are giving out a divy for more people to hop on board and then just turn there backs on you when they are filthy rich?

who are you selling the stock through? some companies have blackout periods. call whoever you're selling the stock through and talk to them (e.g. Action Direct, ETrade, etc).

try to sell it verbally (vs electronically). If they can't for whatever reason, they'll tell you as much as they know.

no they dont have to give out a dividend. you should of sold high, thats the risk of playing stock market, they can declare that they want to pay a dividend. But that doesnt always happen.


and sometimes dividends are only paid out to Prefered share holders, not Common stock.


Best bet is if u still can make aprofit on the stock sell out immedietly. instead of riding it out.

Or look for more information relating to the company.

Yea, it happens. Basically, don't always believe what the company says.

The stock was trading in a range then broke down in early Decemeber, which was the first sell signal. I wouldn't be suprised to see this head lower.
