Who is going to upgrade right away? I just bought a XP Pro from MemEx a couple months ago cause I couldn't wait that long for Vista, so not sure if I am willing to spend like $200 to upgrade!

I bought Windows XP MCE from MemX ($139.95) a few weeks ago and it came with an upgrade form for Vista Home Premium. The cost of the upgrade is seemingly free, you just have to pay for shipping - which is a around 30 bucks.
Just thought you guys wanted to know.
yup, the upgrade from home premium is only $139 so its not that bad... but I won't upgrade yet as some other games are not supported by Vista.
Yeah... I'll still get the upgrade but won't use it for the same reason. Windows XP can still hold its own and works perfectly for what I need it to do.Originally posted by mekeni

I'm probably gonna dual boot XP and Vista so that way I'll have both.

im sticking with xp pro til more drivers are supported on vista.
my laptop runs vista no problem, but when I installed it on my pc I got a BSOD
tried vista and still pretty annoyed with it. i'll stick with xp until vista has more driver support and when dx10 games are more commen
Ill be waiting. I remember when I installed XP for the first time how many bad things happened.
The price was for the OEM version. So technically, the cost for the Vista upgrade is $134.95, but it's the shipping cost that brings the price up a bit.Originally posted by kaput
Is that an MCE upgrade or the OEM full version? I need to get an OS for my parents computer but to me its equally as stupid to buy an out of date program as it is to pay $200 for the novelty of a new one so obviously the cheaper solution wins unless I can get both like that.
I'm gonna get the upgrade regardless just to get it. Still gonna use XP for the next while though...
Ill go Vista Pro. Got a free upgrade from buyin this Labtop from alienware.

There is...
Vista Starter
Vista Home Basic
Vista Home Premium
Vista Business
Vista Ultimate
If you bought XP pro, you will get an upgrade to vista business I think...
XP Home --> Home Basic
XP MCE --> Home Premium
XP Pro --> Business??
As for the guy who wants to dual boot vista and XP, have you tried this already?
If not, you are in for a little bit of a surprise. It is not as easy as it sounds (it can be done, but it is not like dual booting XP and a previous install, it is not automatic).

I've been dual booting it for months...i know its not exactly like dual booting other OS's but it still works for me

XP Home -> Vista Home Basic (pay a fee + freight)
XP MCE -> Vista Home Premium (pay freight only)

There are no WinXP equivalents to Vista Enterprise and Vista Ultimate hence no upgrades existed under the Express Upgrade program.
in Q3/Q406 a lot of system builders were instructed and given incentive to use MCE over XP Home in anticipation of the Express Upgrade program that began in October.
From a system builder perspective, Vista Home Premium is going to dominate MCE because it comes with it's own DVD Decoder.
Personally, I see no reason why im going to update my machine to Vista (I'd only go ultimate). My nero6 ultra won't work so i'll have to buy nero7 amongst other things.
Wont upgrade right away, dont know if I will ever. Might just buy a mac

The only advantage is DX10 compatible
But by the time DX10 is a big deal to me i doubt I will be that into keeping up with the trends of computers as I will have my money to blow on cars...
If you can get your hands on a Maximum PC February they have a top 10 reasons you don't need to upgrade to vista right away. As stated above, If I do ever go to Vista, I will be running boot camp on a G6 or MacBook Pro by then.
