is it not the same for every head in existence?

start in the middle and work out when tightening, start on outside and work towards center when loosening.

you could think of it as a swirl circle pattern outwards.

Safest bet. But why not go to the library and get the info?

not quite, but if you head to autovalue or canadian tire or some shizz, they have haynes manuals (which generally suck but will have the torquing sequence). not only is the order you torque them important, but HOW, and to WHAT torque setting. some engines call for multiple goes at tightening it (i believe your vw may be like this, i know mine is)

also, checking with the dealer would not be a bad idea at all

I always tighten in a spiral from the middle outward.
