CANON EF 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 USM lens

I am looking to pick up a wide angle lens to play around with, I am looking for something affordable. Can anyone give me opinions on a CANON EF 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 USM lens, I am not too concerned with super high quality right now.

I wouldn't really classify 24mm as "Wide angle".. IMO.. If you aren't looking for high quality I'm sure that lens will do you well..

It's wide angle on a FF (5D, 1Ds) body, but not very wide on a crop (Rebel, 20D, 30D) body.

I don't know many beyonder's that shoot FF (5D, 1Ds) that aren't concerned with super high quality lenses..

I could sell my 17-85mm USM IS lens as well, basically brand new, plus hood, box, books, etc, and can include a brand new MC UV filter! It is a great entry all in one lens.

If you are willing to spend more, I hv the 17-35 F2.8L, my buddy is using it now.

I am back to FF now .. so lots of back up gears now ..

Flipping through the little Sigma brochure I picked up, they make a 10-20mm lens. Even on a crop body that is 15mm and I think thats considered pretty wide angle. I know nothing about the quality of this particular lens but its like $640 at TCS. Maybe someone who knows a little more can tell you if its a good lens or not, but that is the widest angle that I have seen personally. Are fish eyes wider simply because its a fish eye? Or is 10mm wider?

I was looking at a Tamron Fishy today but I dont know how much use I would get out of it. I think that I would get more use out of a 10-14mm wide angle.
