    Default Laptop Issue

    Hey guys,
I just installed a new hard drive on my Compaq Presario 2100 laptop and installed windows xp. However when it boots up, the picture doesn't take up the entire screen. I've checked my resolution settings even though I don't think it has anything to do with that. Any ideas?

Have you installed the display drivers first?

i think in the bios it should be "screen expansion" or something similar to that.

also, you may want to go into the display properties>settings>advanced and play around in there...

No I haven't and I want to do that but I can't even connect to the internet. I am using a Linksys wireless B network card and it was working prior to installing the new hard drive.

The disc I have for linksys only sets up the router. How can I set up my wireless connection on my laptop?

go to another computer and download the driver, or use a cable to connect and use your MOBO disc to install the LAN adapter

    http://www.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html

    go there from another computer
download all the drivers listed for your computer
put it on a cd and install it on your laptop

looks like your missing the graphics driver
and also your wireless card drivers
so you wont be able to do anything
and the windows drivers probably wont work or else they would have installed themselves when you installed xp

Mmm, well it'd be helpful to get on a computer with internet and download the necessary drivers to a disk, you should be able to connect a network cable instead of using the wireless in the meantime yes?

for the video card, download the ATI drivers from here

For the wireless LAN card, go to www.linksys.com and download the drivers for a WPC11 (note there's over 4 versions, so pick the right one), or find the disc that came with the adapter.

Okay here is what I've done so far.

I've connected my laptop to a wired connection and downloaded the correct drivers for my Linksys network card. I've installed it but now it says that it doesn't associate with the access point.
