Super Slow Internet

Just wondering if anyone could shed any light to why my internet is soooo slow right now. Anytime I load more than 2-3 pages at a time, firefox freezes and I get a timeout error. Everything was fine last week, but this week it feels like I've been downgraded from cable to 56k

ODD thing is, its only surfing the internet that's slow. I can still get download speeds of 600-700kB/s

Combined torrent download speeds of 300-500kB/s.

Both are regular speeds, its just browsing the internet, all of sudden has gotten 10x slower. I used a bandwidth monitor and there doesn't seem to be anyone leeching my connection. I also tried several browsers (firefox, ie7, opera) and still nothing

they'll tell you if your interenet settings are out of whack

To remove any doubt that somebody may be leaching your connection, secure your network

I was having this same problem lately, and it turns out it was just because my router was taking a dump on me. I took it out of the loop and now I just have my computer and modem and it runs full speed again.

I know after downloading a lot of shit through torrents i have to release and renew my IP and then it goes back to normal. I have shaw extreme and i think when they see lots of bandwith go through torrent ports they throttle your speeds.

I think it is my router, took that out, and everything is running very fast now.

Released / renewed my ip a few times but that didn't make that much of a difference. Also ran the pcpitstop optimize program and even after the configuration changes, nothing happened. I'm also pretty sure that my connection is secure, you need a WAP password to access it.

@b_t, just wondering if you were able to get your connection running at 100% with the router?

I download heavily too and my first two Routers both took massive dumps. I went and spent $200 on the one I have now and I get no problems at all.
