i have a few keys that are hard to press and was wondering how hard it is to pop the key off and see if there is something stuck under it

They are more complex, they use scissor keys that look like this underneath:

You can pry them off with a flat blade screwdriver, but be careful. They take a fair amount of force to pop off.

Yeah I always just pop em, and then squish them back on.. they do take some force to click in, and it doesn't feel "quite right" doing it.. you can also try shaking it upside down lightly and blowing aroudn the keys to see if you can knock the crumbs loose.. ha

for the price of a new keyboard, never ever take the keys off your laptop keyboard, you will most likely never get it back on properly and/or it will never work properly again.
