I've been in the projects of NorCal while visiting my grandparents. They are the only Asian family living in any of the complexes there. It's nice though because they have been accepted by the rest of the African American community. Even still, when we arrived into the parking lot all of the African American's living in the complexes came outside of their doors.

They just stared at us wondering who we were and what business we had there. We finally called my uncle who lives with my grandparents (and is 'down' with the community) to come escort us from the parking lot up to my grandparents place.

He told us that he had already spoke with most of the people in the complexes and told them that we were coming to visit him and my grandparents. He said usually when cars roll up in the complexes there are gunshots fired upon occasion.

Was scary too because you never really experience anything like that here in Calgary no matter what community you're in. At like 3am all you hear is loud bangs on the door of where my grandparents and uncle live. My uncle had to grab his gun from under his bed and go up to the door and ask who it was.

The person on the other side of the door started yelling and screaming but finally realized he had the wrong place. Probably some junky or some crazy shit like that hahaha. Regardless, I was pretty scared lol.

No ghetto here...one of our refineries is in Newark California, but we stay just down the freeway in Fremont, we are told by the staff NOT to go outside the hotel after dark. Why? Cause we were white and not cops

i know black people that have spent several years in black ghettos in some of the rougher american cities, and even they are scared of walking around compton. theres plenty of neighborhoods that you hear gunshots daily and cops dont even go to.

    http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http:/...p;t=k&om=1

calgary has no ghetto at all. the chance of running into anyone with a gun is pretty slim. there, the chance of NOT running into anyone with a gun is slim. calgary has some dirty spots with trailer trash, but thats about it.

thats also why its funny that we have "gangs". we get a bunch of try-hard kids being dumbasses and we hear about a shooting once in a while, but id love to see them survive in real gang territory. we totally take for granted the fact that we can go anywhere in the city at any time and the thought of getting shot doesnt have to cross your mind. there, everyones got a gun, and many sleep with one under their pillow. its a mess.

downtown eastside vancouver, the biggest ghetto in canada, and even there i wouldnt really be afraid of getting shot. id be worried about a crackhead touching me and giving me aids maybe, but you dont walk through there thinking it could be the last moments of your life really...
Ive been to Compton and nothin happened to us...i was with about 5-6 white guys and 5-6 black guys and no1 came up 2 us to start shit, so im really unsure where you are pulling your facts from.

Compton is not ghetto and dangerous as some ppl think. Although i was only there till about 9 pm(sunset) so cant really judge what goes on at night but a white person can walk the streets, just as long as you dont stare at anyone cause then hes got a reason to shoot you.

Ive got a few friends down in LA County/Orange County area and they have told me some stories when comparing it to Calgary, you can pretty much say that Calgary is a mecca.

One story that i will tell is in most schools once you enter in the morning you cannot leave the premesis until school is over. Metal detectors are used daily for every student no matter what and the whole school is fenced in. Also they get drive by's weekly and pretty much they are all used to it, Calgary is not ghetto and its nothing what ppl make it out to be.

You guys have no idea what a ghetto is. Spend a few days in Detroit and see what a real ghetto is.

Compton is very dangerous and ghetto , ive passed through it with some of my football friends who live in longbeach ... And why would you expect people to start shit with you when you have 10 ppl around you? If it was all white boys you would have a problem. Or defiantly be harassed.

How about the eastern european ghettos , some of those are really bad.... Calgary is Paradise ..

And who the hell makes such a lame thread.

HAHAHA very true. Most of the areas in Calgary that are considered to be ghetto (Bowness, Forest Lawn), arent even close to some of the bad hoods in the States

    thread after thread

, albert park, raddison , soouthview, west dover, are very nice areas, never mind the bozos saying anything east of deefoot/north of glenmore , plain ignorance

theres valley view estates, albert park has by the the top or near top view, rocky mountains, downtown skyline (albert park raddison is directly east of downtown, first community on a hill) and also view of the river.

what i see as less diserable areas, are all over the city, theres nothing wrong with forest, on 17 ave se, you every large company there, and other top vendors

    co-op,
    safeway,
    zellers
market produce (top fresh produce in town)
    shoppers drug mart
    IGA
Sobeys (opening soon) with second cup (or who ever puts in higher bid)
market produce, and the bakery next
    markwork wearhouse

    olive garden
    redlobster
    homedepot
    stables

minutes away from chinook centre, and the downtown

    and literly hundreds more

name one area in calgary that has all these services, if it wasnt a diserable, its no ghetto. actually i dont know any other part of calgary with all those companies there

and hundreds more. name one avenue you get access to all these products and services? think of it as a vegas every big company is there.

yes its a little undervalued in certain areas, bad reps, media, peoples mind.

But like people say, theres no real ghetto in calgary

This has got to be the most pointless thread ever.

Looking for bad areas in Calgary is like looking for an ugly chick in Playboy. If you want ghetto areas you should visit other cities and have your perspective changed. After living in Winnipeg and spending considerable amounts of time in Toronto, there is no area in Calgary where I would be scared to walk around at night.

i hate when people say that dover and forest lawn are ghetto... and mostly coming from people who live in the rich areas... Woah! WATCH OUT we dont have 500,000 houses... just be glad your mommy and daddy are rich... dover and forest lawn are nice nieghbourhoods...

they just get a bad rap because people judge and then people around here think they need prove it... its bullshit and annoying!! ive lived in dover for 20 years and never had a problem... and i went to forest lawn high school and never had a problem.. get your facts straight you hipocrits..

calgary has the most and least expensive realestates in canada... and the lowest just happens to be in forest lawn, so WHAT!
