Default Cheap hotels or motels downtown?

I have a friend visiting and wants to stay in a hotel or even motel DT central, but not too pricey - like the palliser, etc. Also this might sound stupid but do hotels only charge by the night (24hrs period), or can you just rent a room for the day and check out in the afternoon. He checked out the international and its still $199.

Im pretty sure you can get Day rooms at most major hotels. I had to get one when I was flying to Egypt (12 hour stay in London).

Cecil is definatly the way to go. Cheap rooms, theres a club right down stairs, I always see the ladies walking in and outta the joint. You really cant go wrong with the choice.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

For downtown try Arts, Sandman, Five or International. When you book try anyhting you can to get a cheaper room night, just ask if they have student discounts, AMA discounts.. anything at all.
