I was there on the weekend, it's not bad. It feels a little small and it wasn't very busy when I went (7-9) but they do have some upscale items. The dumplings especially are delicious. It is a little pricey though, and it feels like the lounge section of a Joey's. Give it a shot but be prepared to pay 12.50 for their special drinks and ~30 for their food.

Velvet. It was named number 10 restaurant in Canada in the most recent Air Canada mag review.

I went to Opus on 8th once with a couple of friends. Their wine selection is sh1t in my opinion. It also didn't help that we were greeted with menus that were photocopied (can see copier marks), unevenly cut (a couple of pages were even torn in corners), and irregularly hand stapled.

I've heard that Divinio's and Escoba are a great places for good wine.

I usually go for drinks at Fuel after work, since I work in Bankers Hall.

Drinks are the same price anywhere you go aren't they

I prefer the 3 bar/restaurants in my area. Fuel, Earls & The Met.

The Crush on 12th and 12th (I think)? If so, I go there often, I work nearby, the food is great. Pretty Moxie's/Earls-esk, but, I dig it.

I havent gone to many classy bars downtown but when my cousins were visiting from London they spotted a place called Belgo's, apparently its a chain in Europe. Anyways I thought it was a really nice place, its on Stephen Avenue, close to TD. Iam not sure if they have a full menu, I think its more of a appetizers and drinks kinda place.

Thats the right location for Hotel Arts, its the old Holiday Inn.

As for Crush, drove by last week and it looks shutdown for good. Either that or reno's.

Imho Calgary is hurtin for lounges/tapas bars. Just about everyone has been mentioned, except maybe Soho. The Living Room & Mercury are my faves, but I miss the old Mercury's charm. The problem with Fuel & The Met on 8th is on Friday afternoons its full of investment types trying to impress each other in front of the pretty girl in the corner, and who'll probably all be in the private room at Ceili's snortin coke off a call girl.

If you call Belgo a lounge (its not, its a restaurant) then you could also go to Chophouse, Piq Niq or Tribune on 8th if you are looking for a drink in a little more upscale place with an older crowd. Make sure you look up at the ceiling if you're at the Tribune, and check out the wine cellar.
