Default Bend over. Fire at a Petro-Canada refinery near Edmonton

Fire At Petro Canada Refinery East Of Edmonton
    Mar, 07 2007 - 8:20 AM

CALGARY/AM770CHQR - A fire has forced the temporary shut down of the huge Petro Canada refinery just east of Edmonton.
Hundreds of workers showing up for the day shift Wednesday have been told they will not be allowed into the refinery.
Petro Canada has not responded to calls, but we have been told there was a fire in the light oil processing portion of the refinery.
Another report says it was a ground fire, suggesting a leak.
There are unconfirmed claims that half a dozen ambulances were called to the shortly after alert sirens began sounding around 7 p.m. Tuesday.
It's not known how long the refinery will be shut down or the impact this will have on production.
I wonder how long it'll take to jack the pump prices because of this.

    Nice.

The other day, I went to the Husky on 14th to get some 94... they were out of Gas...

I can see Petro doing the same.

It doesn't look too bad, Herald mentioned that the plant is still at 90% of the capacity. But who knows, they like to use every excuse to raise the price.

Yeah, it's called running your plates too high above nameplate capacity in order to meet demand. Usually results in shortcutting on maintenance--for example, if you're running 3 of 3 pumps that are normally 2 online + 1 spare, you can't change any seals or bearings. Guess what is the most common cause of refinery fires?
