Thanks 4doorj. Lol you're not supposed to tell me this, I've only just sold the S a week and a half ago
As much as I loved the S, I am definitely looking forward to a change of vehicle. We were very close to pulling the trigger on the Elise at Weissach but found it somewhat similar of a resemblance in driving to the S..the Exige S on the other hand....

Don't get me wrong I love the evo.
But driving the S was really fun. And it looks sooooo damn good. The rawness of the car can't be beat.
But being a parent makes owning a two seater convertible useless.
My s2000 just sat in my garage and collected dust. Now all my cars seems to have 4 doors hahaha
I will own another s2000 one day. Or hopefully even better a NSX.
congrats! evo > sti!Originally posted by carzcraz

haha, yup, that's me. The car still runs, but I don't want to take any chances. 6 months of driving it hard and racing anything that moved has finally taken it's toll. The funny thing is that it's not the head gasket so I'm wondering if it was time for the rings to go
Anyway, I was debating about just swapping in in another engine with a 3mm head gasket but it seems like many guys are opposed to it so I'm totally confused.
I'm confident in Lawrence's tune, but like I was asking the s2ki forum, what would cause the rings to let go?
When I was PMing you I kept stressing the oil jets, and I am very sure that's what went wrong. Check cyl #4. Compression and leakdown.
You got lucky you had this long out of the motor. Some people have scored #4 as quickly as 20 km after they get FI.
Who in their right mind told you to get a 3mm for 320 whp. Seriously? Either get a Mahle FRM compliant drop in pistons or stick to a stock HG. Your turbo will run out of steam a lot faster than your bottom end. A few people have 700+ whp on a fully stock engine.
From what I have seen, rings or ringlands don't tend to go often on S2000s. You either score the cylinder, spin a bearing, or drop valves due to early model retainer issues.

4th cylinder had a little problem from honda where the oil jets werent feeding it adequate oil to lubricate the internals.
as a result, my cylinders got scored bad. when we took out the motor, we also realized the f20 block cannot be bored due to thinner side walls.
two routes you can go is to either get it sleeved, or buy a long block and replace (depending on the piston conditions)
good luck
parting out?
That sucks to hear man!

Well, it may appear that way; however, I have not torn down the engine to confirm it. From the looks of it though, you may be correct. The head looks appears to be in tact and the coolant is not leakng at all anywhere so it may have been oil starvation.
Like I said, the engine starts and drives, I was able to drive it home, but again, there is some major pressure out the valve cover.
I was debating about the 3 mm head gasket on a newer engine but have decided against it seeing how much power the stock bottom end can handle.
I've sourced out an f22 and am goind to slap my current turbo setup on it because it's just what I' looking for. I just hope the upgraded oil jets are up to the task! Like I said, I'm no expert and I don't want to go through this again. I'm pretty confident that the tune that Lawrence did was sound but I will need to retune this car once the new engine is in and I hope that there are no issues with oil starvation.
It's like you said Dimi, I'm glad that the engine lasted as long as it did knowing that it's a 2001 f20 on boost!
