'Knock down stipple' ceilings...

I hear ceilings with knock down stipple ('orange peel' effect?) can look pretty sharp, but can't actually find any pictures of what it looks like.... anyone know of a home reno site that shows you exactly what it is?

Are you getting a base color underneath the white stipple?

I'm going to be painting the living room a medium brown, thinking of going for a light brown as the base for the knock down stipple ceiling. And maybe scrape 6" off the outer edge so it kinda looks likea boarder...

No, just painted the ceiling flat white

Knock down is pretty popular. I would be careful painting a base coat under it though. If you decide to change colors down the road you would have to make sure that it matches with your base coat. I have knock down in my house, but we just went with a white base coat.
