    Default Overheating Symptoms help??

So i have a 95 civic Dx, and The fan has been coming on/off whenever it pleases, for the most part it doesnt turn on.

    The car overheats.

I've looked further into what it could be, and it looked like it never had a Bleeder screw. I got one and replaced it. Next, I had a feeling the thermostat was faulty, kinda sticking so it would come on sometimes; so i replaced that as well with Honda oem. Now,

the fan is coming on more, however, it just started overheating after a week of this replacement, and i checked it, and it started overflowing my extra resevoir tank...

What seems to be causing this?? Would it be air still in the engine when I was putting the coolant in? Or something else?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Have you checked the ECT Sensor (Engine Coolant Temperature)?

Check you oil, if its head gasket your oil will be like chocolate milk. If not, id look into the sensor.

^ not always, intake gaskets can cause that too.

sounds like the cooling system is getting pressurized if its over flowing...

well it never overflowed before. Until after i replaced the thermostat. at least to my knowledge. if its the headgasket, will it be chunks of black dots in my coolant? Or a real good mix of oil and coolant?

My oil levels are perfect always, never low. haven't checked the ECT sensor, as I have no idea where that is actually located.

Just did an oil change last weekend, seemed as normal as any other oil change i've done in comparisons as my previous cars.

I had the same problem... if your getting steam coming out of your reservoir after driving, it might just be the rad cap... mine had literally fallen apart... (i have a 92 civic si hatch) I've also had to replace the thermostat... check your cap... easy solution... if it doesn't hold the pressure anymore, i think a new one from CT cost me like... $6-$10

I never actually checked the cap.. but i will look into it! Appreciate it. I was thinking it could be my Radiator??

Should i just change the cap anyways? I mean, when I remove the cap after its cooled a little bit, it gives off pressure. Does that mean the cap is good??

Well the cap is supposed to hold a certain amount of pressure... so it's actually a flat cap on top (outside) and then this weird thingy that fits inside the hole, lol dunno how to explain it... my "weird thingy" broke off, and the seal was gone as well, so as soon as the rad warmed up, it pressurized and it came out the rubber hose into my reservoir... so i was spitting steam from under my car... so like i said, take a look at it, and if you feel its not satisfactory, pop on a new one... like i said, not that expensive

ahh.. that COULD very well be the reason why my extra resevoir tank was over flowing n steaming?? because i wasn't holding. Thanks for the hint. I'll check it asap.

    Alright.. Finally got it!

Went on the beyond cruise.. Started overheatin again...
Checked the engine bay, and the resevoir tank overflowed everywhere!!

Filled it with like half a glass ( estimation ) of new coolant in the rad on the way back from the meet, and it didn't over heat??

    Back to square one again...

    Any other tips?

    Bump... Still looking for help??

No white smoke and No mixture in my coolant or oil..

I did notice that the lower rad hose ( attached to the thermostat) was a lot cooler than my top rad hose attached to the radiator.

Could this be a very possible thermostat? ( although I just changed it with Honda OEM less than a month ago )
