prelude offsets

hey, i have been reading up on honda tech for offsets for 97-01 preludes.

now my questions is, what offsets are you guys running. I have head that anything under 45 will rub.

Other sizes can be used, but these will be the majority of sizes used.
Where "Overall Diameter is Larger" is noted there maybe a problem with cars that are lowered.
These are only tires that are close to stock O.D., the offset of your wheels needs to be correct in order to prevent rubbing issues.

3rd Generation Stock = 5.5" Wide Wheel w/ +45mm

Note:
Most people who lower 5th Generation Prelude w/ aftermarket wheel equipped need to trim off a small piece of the rear bumper cover inside of the wheel well. You can trim is using a dremel, grinder, a file (take longer obviously), etc --- it is only plastic. If you put your hand inside the wheel well you will see what I'm referring to. See image below:



6.5" Wide Wheels w/ 4th & 5th Gen.

[Color="orange"]Less than +38mm[/color] ::: You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well.

[Color="orange"]+38mm to +55mm[/color] ::: You shouldn't have any problems. [Color="red"]Recommended Offsets for 6.5" Wide Wheels.[/color]
[Color="orange"]Larger than +55mm[/color] ::: You take the chance of rubbing the inside lining of the wheel well.


7" Wide Wheels w/ 4th & 5th Gen.

[Color="orange"]Less than +38mm[/color] ::: Not Recommended

[Color="orange"]+38mm to +41mm[/color] ::: Not Recommended if you are, or plan to be, lowered. You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well.
[Color="orange"]+42mm to +44mm[/color] ::: This is a grey area if you are lowered, results vary depending on tire and/or drop. You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well.
[Color="orange"]+45mm to +50mm[/color] ::: You shouldn't have any problems. [Color="red"]Recommended Offsets for 7" Wide Wheels.[/color]
[Color="orange"]Larger than +51mm[/color] ::: Not Recommend. You take the chance of rubbing the inside lining of the wheel well.



7.5" Wide Wheels w/ 4th & 5th Gen.

[Color="orange"]Less than +40mm[/color] ::: Not Recommended
[Color="orange"]+40mm to +43mm[/color] ::: Not Recommended if you are, or plan to be, lowered. You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well. Wouldn't recommend using any tire with an overall diameter larger than stock and/or with a tire width larger than 215.
[Color="orange"]+44mm to +47mm[/color] ::: This is a grey area if you are lowered, results vary depending on tire and/or drop. You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well. Wouldn't recommend using a tire with an overall diameter more than slightly larger than stock, you chances of rubbing increase.

[Color="orange"]+48mm to +52mm[/color] ::: You shouldn't have any problems. [Color="red"]Recommended Offsets for 7.5" Wide Wheels.[/color]
[Color="orange"]Larger than +53mm[/color] ::: Not Recommend. You take the chance of rubbing the inside lining of the wheel well.


8" Wide Wheels w/ 4th & 5th Gen.
Not recommended without enlarging or rolling outside lip of wheel wells. Some people have had success with running offsets larger than +48mm, but you are taking a risk. The setup that is working for monk3y is 215/40/17 tires dropped about 1.5".

I ran +48 and +50mm offsets on 17" and 18" wheels (7.5" wide) and no problems with rubbing whatsoever. I was even lowered a couple inches.

Rubbing isn't as big a deal as caliper clearance is.

well i am thinking about getting a set of rota slipstreams (16x6.5 45+ offset) and the car lowered on tein s-techs

shouldnt be a problem at all.
6.5" wide wheel is not even close to being too wide.
You can fit 8's in there with the right offset.

ET42's on a 7.0 to 7.5 inch wide rim don't usually cause any problems unless you are really low or unless you have some serious camber issues.

That being said, ET45 to ET48 tends to be ideal...

it really depends on the tire. Every manufacturer's tire design will be different. Some have flatter sidewalls, some have bulgier.

Ok, kind of want to bring the whole fitment thing over into my little honda world

lately i have been thinking about running 16x7 with a +35 offset, make its a bit more flush. When it comes to suspension if you have stiff enough suspension and set it settle before you drop it more I think this could be pulled off.

there would be +14mm of inner clearance and it will be extended 26mm. even if i went 16x8 +38 there would still be more clearance but the outer position will be extended 10 more mm.

has anyone even tried low offsets on honda's yet on this board or should i just talk to the nut bags on honda tech who think they drive nissans now with there 0 offsets
