Good luck to anyone getting hired without experience. For a top paying company like that, they're gonna get plenty of applications, and if I was in their position, it's without 2nd thought that I'd hire the one with the most qualifications.

Then there's me...more experience than most interns, near grad, but still can't find anything that pays more than $50k/yr. As much as I love Civ.E, it's not quite the investment I was expecting from going through it.

You should be at 90K+ by the time you get your stamp.

The "specialist" part of the job title likely means a senior engineer with at least 8 to 10 years' experience in the utility industry. Not for noobs.

Nah, i'd say a random hr person would be more likely to do that.

As for the origional poster, i think your expectations are indeed a little high. As a recent electrical grad i can tell you that you can expect 50k-60k. Thats the range all me and my friends fall into. The one that got the higher range hada lot of coop experience and did extremely well in school.

I have no doubt that salary+benefits can total 70k but there is no way you get that first year unless maybe you MWD for halliburton or something like that.

I know people who graduated from electrical and already have their P. Eng (4 years experience) and they still aren't making 75k base.

There are people that get salaries like that, but they're the top of the class, and likely have good connections in the industry before graduateing.
Alot of my friends are engineering students and I get the impression half of what they do is sit around and boost each other's egos.

I can only guess, most of those high paying jobs are not posted. And without good connections- it's unlikely the avg new grad with no experience will find any in that range

A lot of companies just post jobs on the UofC job board as part of their campaign. Even if they're looking for someone with 8-10 years experience, they'll still post it on there...
