Two Calgary Police Service Officers have been relieved from
duty with pay following an incident that occurred April 25,
2007.
The incident was videotaped by a private citizen and a copy
was forwarded to the Calgary Police Service late yesterday.
Allegations of excessive use of force during an arrest have
been made against the officers. This morning, Chief Jack
Beaton ordered an immediate investigation by the Professional
Standards Section and the officers involved in the incident
were relieved of their duties with pay earlier today, pending
further investigation and a criminal review by Alberta
Justice.
“We know and understand that the relationship of trust we
have with our community depends on each member’s good
conduct, and that unprofessional behaviour affects us all
both professionally and personally”, stated Chief Jack
Beaton. “The Calgary Police Service takes all allegations of
criminal activity or improper conduct by any member very
seriously. Hence all matters are thoroughly, fairly and
impartially investigated.”
