    Default Jobs and hours

Hey, I'm looking for some feedback from people who work long hour jobs.

I'm possibly taking on a second job for some extra coin. its 12 hour shifts 4 days a week. I will then be working my existing job part time on 2 or 3 days the rest of the week.

The shifts are 7-7 and either Days or nights (works a few weeks days, few weeks nights).

I've never worked night shifts and not generally for this long. How has anyone found this type of work, are there ways to make the time go by faster, its a dispatch job so its not like its hard labor or anything, basically sitting at a dual or tri monitor set up and making sure stuff works.

I understand it will take a toll on social life and such but its something I'm willing to accept, as I need coin.

Anyone have any opinions or thoughts? Is 20/h worth it? I think so, but I have never done it for an extended period of time, so I do not know what it would be like down the road. I'm an insomniac anyways, so I dont feel I will have a problem.

    Anyone?

I don't know, I work about 11 hour days 6 days a week, mind you it's during the day so not quite the same, I have no social life anymore as I am always too tired to do anything with friends and I barely get to spend time with the g/f, very taxing, your setup will be worse but hey, if you need the cash, what else can you do eh?

yeah, All I care about right now sadly is money, besides, the more time I spend at work, the less opportunity there is to Spend money!

if it only lasts 6 months oh well, thats 25k more than I have now.

I do 12 hours occasionally, and sometimes just normal full time hours 6 days a week. Extremely draining, but the money makes me feel better, and if i wasnt working, i'd probably be sitting on my ass. Money is good.

Hey Ben, I know what you mean. Working long hours has its benefits, obviously extra $$$ but negatives are plenty. Increase stress, less interaction with friends, less enjoyment in life (depending on the job). I guess it comes down to where your priorities are and what you really want to do.

Personally, the cash was great, working open to close at the shop. But afterawhile, I seriously needed a break because I was just so sick of working.

Do you really need the extra cash? Your just going to be really grumpy! haha

i work full time 8-4 M-F, but I also have a part time where i can work occasional nights and weekends, so its 8-4, then 6-11 13 hour day, its ReALLy hard!! And it gets really annoying. Soon ill be quitting my part time or getting rid of night shifts completely.

Do it man....Fully worth it in the long run....i have same problems, never wanting to work, due to friends and stuff. Its my last year with most of em, i should say last summer, just finishing high school...but wheni think about it, down the road i can make new friends, + money does by happiness. I havnt been happy for 2 years now, letme put it that way. What i would do for 5grand, lol...Whats this job...if u dont wanna do it, i'll do it, lol

I used to do that for 9 months last year.

Full time job 8-5, PT job for 35-40 hours/week more (Sat/Sun 6am - 2pm, rest of hour split over the week).

Apparently, I had huge bags under my eyes that took a month or so to go away after I quit.

Worth it? If you don't have a GF, and you don't mind ditching your friends then HELL YES. Just save enough for taxes, because that'll fuck ya over.

Personally, I wouldn't do it to my GF again though. It was hard on her to see me like that, when she did see me.

If money DOESN'T buy happiness, it'll make MISERY a lot easier to handle!

You'll probably get something like an extra buck an hour shift diff working 7pm to 7am. The 12-hour shifts aren't so bad and you'll get used to the long hours. Easy to pass the time if you have a computer and a fast connection.

The toughest part is switching between night and day shift, and vice-versa. Fucks up your system and you lose sleep.

I work a full time job 40 hours per week, 8 hours a day, 5 days with a part time job 8 hour shifts, 2-3 nights a week.
It adds up but the more work you do the more money you make.
It does kill alot of social time though as you'd be tired and want to spend time resting.
You gotta ask yourself, is it worth it?

yeah, the night shifts are a buck 20 more an hour IIRC.

Thanks for the input everyone, I've decided Fuck it, I'm doing this, the good outweighs the bad.

Not many people get to a point in their life where they feel they are sucessful and can sustain themselves comfortably without woking hard for it, and if saying no to lots of recreational and evening stuff like going out to clubs/bars/pubs/movies/ etc means I save up a tonne of coin, that will only mean greater things in the future. I'm willing to suffer a bit now for greater enjoyment in the upcomming..

$20/hr? Wow, what kind of place are you working at? That might be nothing to some of you guys but to me, that is some serious coinage.
