Default help! car sit for 10 years

I am thinking to buy a '79 porsche 911 turbo from my uncle. The car is a low mileage car, but it sit untouched more than 10 years!
If I can afford it, what should I do first. Can I just change oil, crank it to allow some oil movement and then try to start it?
    I need your opinion.

Where was the car stored? Was anything done to prepare it for storage (draining fluids, adding stabilizers to fluids, etc?). These are the biggest factor in whether firing it up right away is a good idea or not.

I think you're looking at a huge repair bill just changing engine seals and gaskets that dried out over 10 years. Tires will have to be replaced among other things.

Get it if it's not going to be your primary car and your uncle gives you a good price.

I don't think there was any preparation for storage. There is a big worry. Wonder how big the repair bill is?

I just freshened up a Carrera RS that sat for 12 w/o any prep.
We opened up the case before it was started... good thing bearing were toast from the oil going acidic. freshened up the guides and tossed in a few other bits, it was $6k touch and that was with the engine already out.

Had a 930 fron NY state a few years back and the new owner drove it after a 10 year sit The pressure plate froze from rust and pulled on the crank until the thrust main failed and the crank was wiped out. $8K

moral ... it is cheaper to open it b4 you drive it

make SURE you pour a little oil (like a table spoon) into every cylinder thru the spark plug hole before you even attempt to move the car in gear or try to start it up. Slowly crank the engine by hand with a ratchet or the wheels or something. let it sit for a day or two then start it up. Make sure you get all the old gas out too before you fire it.

I think you'd be a lot better off to drop the motor and tear it down.. after seeing dozens of screwed bike motors after long "sits", I wouldn't do it any other way!

    Isn't the 930 a turbocharged version of the 911?

In those years, you could either get a 911 or a 930 - and the 930 was the turbo model.

930 is the internal designation ..like f body for a camaro.

    911s, 911sc, 911carrera = NA
    911turbo carrera = Supercharged aka 930
