should i just cut it out? cause i've been told that its toast and is destroying my performance.

Since Alberta has no yearly inspections, and doesn't require cat convertors, I would remove it.
I hear it sounds like poo without one. I always kept mine in. or got a high flow one.
I'm going to buy a 89 camaro.
You will not notice anything by cutting it out.

not that stinky but yes it smells a bit...sound wise it'll be loud that's a given...my exhaust sounded fine till i put the new cams in...now when the engine is cold it sounds like ass but once it's warm it's fine... I'd say do it, but some places wont do it for you however. It IS illegal but i asked and they told me it's not enforced in Alberta. If you are really paranoid about the cops just leave the headshields clamped on somehow...Originally posted by Lt. Max

i hear you gain a whopping 1-2 hp at max
yeah. I read somewhere too that removing a cat is illegal, and you can get a ticket. But its just like puttin on aftermarket muffler too, cops can give u a ticket, but rarely do.....harder to tell if cat is off then an aftermarket muffler...not sure gains...hear decent gains with a turbo car? not sur etho
if the cat is clogged the cheapest solution is to take it out. downside would be increased noise and exhaust smells like crap.
you should definitely not remove your cat! too much pollution. just get a high flow cat and slap that bitch in there.
it sounds like ass when u remove the cat cuz the cat muffles a lot of the rice-tones.

Get a resonator. It won't sound like ass, I've had it done before. As for it being illegal, it's not. Alberta does not require the use of cat convertors. This is the reason we have no anual inspections, or emissions testing.
I have no cat, But I'm waiting to take care of some other priorities, then I'm buying a complete new cat and midpipe.
Bought not built!
I dont have a cat on my car, sounds great IMO.

First off, you don't have a honda. Secondly, the gains you experience will NOT be "noticed" unless you dyno the car. Only ricers are able to feel 2hp increases.Originally posted by rice_eater

again...have YOU done it or is this hearsay? As for calling me a ricer...bitch please...
The gain you noticed is from the catback and header, not removing the cat. The cat on most modern cars is hardly a restriction at all, and removing it only amounts to a horsepower or two at the wheels, at most.Originally posted by rice_eater

Drag racing is for fast cars. Solo 2 is for fast drivers.
If you are going to spend the cash to get a resonatory you might as well spend the extra couple bucks and get a high flow cat.Originally posted by Abom

somewhat true...i got the cat taken out last and yes of course the gain i saw was probably mostly from the other mods running better. I agree that it only gives you one maybe two horse NOW! Maybe he/she will want to do other mods later considering he/she already did an engine swap so the gains will keep getting better. If the cat is wrecked the gain noticed will obviously be greater and the slight increase in milleage will be there too. Now when you way out the prices $75+GST for a Catco or $40 tops for them to cut it out and weld in a pipe the choice for me is clear. Now that's my opinion from what i saw on my car... let's not beat what i say to death and help this guy out with his question insteadOriginally posted by 4wheeldrift
