Default New Tundra has snapping camshafts

The new Toyota Tundra has had quite a few dings against it lately. First the truck failed to grab 5 stars in safety tests (two times), Toyota started to offer rebates on some of the configurations, and now there are camshaft quality issues.
Reportedly there have been 20 Tundras equipped with the 5.7L V8 that have had their camshafts snap. Toyota says the problem has to do with one of their distributors. Luckily the problem was caught early, before it could affect a large number of the trucks.
Toyota is trying to figure out how many of the trucks are affected out of the 30,000 engines that have been built, but they feel that it was an early batch of the engines. The automaker is confident in the current engines that are being produced.
The automaker rushed the 5.7L V8 to the market before its original summer 2007 intro date due to pressure from dealers. Dealers and product planners felt that the 4.7L V8 would not make a large enough impact.

I guess it isn't just GM that makes crap.

The difference is Toyota will quietly and efficiently fix the problem for their customers.

GM would try to deny it long as they can and will then begrudgingly only fix the ones they absolutely have to.

Are you speaking from experience here?

From the looks of it, Toyota failed to quietly solve this problem, so you are just making shit up.

I'd still buy a Toyota over GM.

werd, it doesn't even sound like it is an engineering problem, just a distributor.

I am a domestic guy.. i dont even think that toyota should be in the 1/2 market (good thing they pulled out of the 3/4+ market before they where destroyed)...

However, you have a car company building an engine that is new to them, putting it in a brand new truck and send it to market in only 35% of the time an average company will build and test a truck.. you are going to have problems. Their frames are junk, great for a straight line pull, but you can tell its comes from a company that has dealt with unitized body construction for most of their time building cars.

I would like to see toyota build a truck that honestly stand up to the big 2 (dodge is out of it now that sterling is taking over the truck development).

    How are their frames junk??

What did they have that was bigger than a 1/2 ton?

I agree that for field stuff, I wouldnt take a tundra but for the other 90% of the people who use personal trucks I sure as hell would.

All you toyota truck haters should look at the world market. I don't know the exact figures but there are lots of places that likely sell more toyota trucks than cars. I admit, these are not all prosperous countries like Canada but lots of people in the world use and abuse their toyota trucks on the jobsite and still swear by them .

It's the only truck they trust in Serengeti national park for tourists.
Trust me, you want a good, reliable and dependable truck if you're right next to a pride of hungry lions and other wild beasts.

I'd still buy it over a GM, or Dodge.

Thats not even a hard to resolve problem. I love the new 6spd Tacoma's, their so awesome to drive, I gotta say thats my favorite truck right now. I'll always love Ford trucks too.

You know GM offers a 6 speed automatic in the GMC Sierra right? It will work its way into other configurations later this year. If Toyota has made such a great truck, the magazines sure dont like it.

Some magazines like road n track say the best things about domestics and not so good about imports. I remember reading once back in 93 when supra turbo vs chevy corvette and they had the best things to say about the vette and they didn't consider supra as a vette contender.

In 5-10 years the tundra will sell for probably around half what you paid for it, the domestic truck will sell for shit.

There is a reason for that.

The Tacoma he's talking about is a 6spd manual... I'm looking into one now, and I know CivicDXR has one...
