You'll be able to get into a bank (Teller position) without the CSC.
If you want to move into or start as a financial planner, you will need the CSC.
Be careful with Edward Jones. The first year there is a base salary plus commission. After a year you are on your own to create commissions, which become your only source of income.

I do get great service there, especially when I mention my name, haha.
What kind of questions do you have? But depends on the position your looking for in a bank and background that you have. If you have no industry experiences if would be unlikely that you would start off in a Financial Planning role (its more senior).
You would probably be looking at a Personal Banking Officer, Financial Services Rep, or Account manager, depending on which bank and what they want to call it and work your way up.
CSC is good. But you can technically start with your IFIC from ICB but eventually will need the CSC to move further up. As for a private firm, depending on how comfortable you are on commissions base....
Well I trade personally on the TSX and also a little bit of Forex. My friend is taking his MBA and wants to be one of those guys who determs if a stock is a good buy or bad. I dont want to do that but want to get into a position where im investing for other people.
If you want to invest other peoples money, you will need a lot more then the CSC.Originally posted by snoop101

^^ agreed. Not sure what private companies need, but some places like IG don't require much.... but in a jr. position you will do some investments, but if you looking to do stocks then you won't have that opportunity. You will being mainly doing mutual funds that the bank allows / specifies you to invest in and more then likely other task like account openings, credit as well....
You will probably need a PFP or CFP at the min. to get into something else. and CPH as well
Just go be a teller for a year and see if you even like that industry, you can get in there with HS pretty much no prob.

I would stay away from working for the banks..Its pretty low pay and always ends up being a sales job. If your interested in investments and finance try some of those private investment dealer companies.
In order to trade equities (stocks) for other people, you must have the following: (bank and brokerage positions)
CSC, CPH, and the WME
In order to work with mutual funds for other people, you must have the following: (bank positions)
CSC and a Mutual Funds License
CSC - Canandian Securities Course
CPH - Conducts and Practice Handbook
WME - Wealth Management Essentials

Perfect the last post pretty much answers my question. I have been looking at those courses.
