Default Help Needed with internet problems ... Money on the Line

I know this is kind of a long read, but the longer this takes the more money I'm probably losing so any help would be greatly appriciated.

I do quite a bit of sports betting and fantasy sports on private internet sites that require daily checking/adjustments in order to win/collect payouts. With this rain storm a few days ago, my Shaw internet went out. When the internet came back up that night, I noticed I could surf any public page with ease, but as soon as I clicked the link to jump to my private sports page (run by CBSsports so its not small time) it would not load. First I thought the problem was with CBS but working with their tech support this whole morning it was proven it wasnt. Then I found out that a few of my friends doing the same betting with Telus were not having any problem at all, making it hard for me to blame CBS at this point.

I called Shaw, and after spending a hour with them, they say its nothing on their end, and either its CBS or my computer.

But what I dont get is I've now talked to a few people that do this. Everyone with Shaw cannot access it, and everyone with Telus can. I have never had a problem up to that rainstorm 2 days ago with these private pages so I have a hard time believing Shaw when they try to pass the blame.

Any ideas? If I cant find a way to access this tonight, I'm going to have to find a internet cafe that uses Telus internet for the time being as right now I dont even want to think about how much I've lost because of this.

    http://www.sportsline.com/fantasy

That site will load. But here is where you have to login

I login, it recognizes me and shows all the different pools/sports books i'm registered in, but doesnt let me go any further into the actual private pages. It just accepts my click, and times out.

I signed up to try it out for ya, and Im on shaw. At first I thought you were nuts because I could go through all of my personal settings, etc, but when trying to open the "Fantasy Baseball 2007" (http://baseball.sportsline.com/splas...=spoe07_sinbsb ) page, it keeps timing out, as well as a few others. Any internet gurus here who could explain the problem? I know the member "brandon" is a whiz when it comes to IT stuff, maybe he'll put in his $0.02.

wow Ogpopo thats a big effort to help someone out to confirm their not crazy, I really appriciate it.

But yeah its weird, only started doing this after the shaw servers all went down a couple days ago. Telus users can still access these pages. Shaw is insisting there is nothing wrong on their end but while they are telling me that, their own shaw home page is fucked up and not loading right.

Are you using Firefox? I have one site that won't load in my firefox, it keeps timing out. Yet I can load it every time in my Internet Explorer.

I think Shaw uses transparent proxies, they are probably screwed up there.

I have tried both Firefox and Internet Explorer, both work fine for everything until I try to go to a private site.

My friend who plays the same pools/sportsbooks told me the stock market sites are blocking him as well so it does look like something to do with private sites in general.

Is there any public places with Telus Internet?

Just go for a stroll through any of the malls till (or if ) you find a telus dsl booth, where they have a few demo computers out. Do your shiz and finish your biz.

I created a test account as well, and it was working for me in IE6, but not in Firefox. I suspect your issue might actually be related to the patch that Firefox did this week, and not a shaw specific setting.

As to shaw's transparent proxies, I don't think they have that in place, the cache would have to be huge, and it wouldn't really buy them anything.

If you're in really dire straights, you can try using the Telus DNS servers, that may help in this issue.

5hift my guess is the problem you were experiencing was because of the shaw outage, infact the outage caused shaw a few headaches, when I was at a friends house in Richmond hill internet went dead the night of the big storm and when everything came back up we were getting a 192.168 address from shaw lol.

So basically what seems to have happened was lighting hit something that caused a lot of shaw equipment to reset to defaults and thus caused the enormous issues that everyone was experiencing. My guess was that they probably reconfigured all their equipment but failed to configure their passthroughs for https sites which would encompass any site that requires login and thus caused the problems you ran across.

Shaw is decent but their staff really isnt that technically knowledgeable, or so it would seem from every conversation i have ever had with them.
