It wasn't that short. 1 hour 40 minutes seems to be a good average nowadays. Sigh the dog part was so damn sad, REALLY makes me think twice about my dog now (I've already lost my first dog to a car accident ) I personally enjoyed the movie and would have paid to see it (got in for free from my friend).

Ending felt rushed. I liked the pace it was at until he was saved by that woman
I gotta agree the movie felt great until he was saved by that lady with the kid... once that happened i knew the movie was wrapping up, if they were going to establish a relationship/character development he woulda found her much sooner.

in 1964, vincent price starred in the first making of this. It's not so much an adaptation, as it is "lets make a movie, that is exactly like this book".

As mentioned before, this movie was a lot like 28 Days Later and Resident Evil. Wasn't original at all.

There was way too much Will Smith in this movie. I think he's a lot better at comedy instead of action. The couple moments of dry humour in the movie weren't even funny.

Lucky they released it during the holidays, otherwise I don't think it would've been such a big hit.

    They could have called it

"Will Smith vs the cannibal mutants" or some equally B-rated title, and it would have done just as well, a lot rides on Smith's name in movies and fills the seats because of that.

Might it be because his character is practically one of the last people on the planet?

28 days later took quite a bit of inspiration from the book itself, so it's understandable that they may appear similar.
However, considering this is the 4th adaptation of this book, and the countless other movies in the genre, i still thought they did a pretty good job of it (apart from the ending.)

I really didn't like the ending..... it was so rushed.
    Its as if the writters/directors were like;
'Okay guys, the movie is about two hours long, now, lets all end this fucking this so we can all go on vacation"
... ALL this climax build up; and such a great idea (even though it was a rip off) and just.... some idiotic end.

I understand it would have been impossible to scope in areas out side of NYC do to costs & time constraints in the movie, but something other then exciting Vermont would have been nice....
like I say the ending was just
"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side"

I didnt like how that spanish woman came out of knowwhere. 1011 days on the island and thats the first time they run into eachother. How in the world did she drive off the island as well? The bridges were taken out! 7/10, if it wasn't Will Smith, 4/10. One other thing I hate.. why do all blockbuster movies have to be commercials, all Ford all the time really ruins it.

    ^^

So true, especially after just rewatching the 2 hour gm commerical refered to as transformers, I really noticed this. Ford Mustang, Explorer/Expedition, and then that Escape the lady drives.

This movie had so much potential, as others have mentioned though, I wish they spent more time with him exploring a empty NY and just trying to survive.

I knew the movie would be a dissapointment though as soon as I saw the Lions catch that deer. Your trying to tell me a German Shepard would not be able to smell Lions stalking the same deer? How would those Lions even get out? Its not like the zoo would release all the animals before evacuating, or like lions would even survive a winter in NY?

regarding the lions, thats a good point, how did they survive? Smith had a locked/secured house and the infected still found a way in... the lions would be sleeping in the fucking street, how wouldnt the infected gotten to them and eaten them ?

Id say the best 5 minutes of the movie is when :
    Spoiler:
Will smith goes into the building to chase his dog, and his sneaking around , then turns around the corner and sees a group of infected standing/sleeping(?) in a ciricle... the suspense in that entire scene was awesome.. then when you see how lousy the CGI when the one infected steps outside to snarl at smith when he's stealing that dudes bitch, well the film went downhill after that

^^ lets see if that new code worked

good acting by will smith and dog
    will give it 3.5/5

I think there's two ways you can interpret it:

    1.
He meant his K9 (Sam) was not infected by airborne bacteria. Just like Will Smith and some others are immune to the virus out of all the humans, his dog happened to be one of the only immune to the virus from all the dogs.

    2.
The dog was immune to airborne bacteria only which means that the other dogs somehow got blood on them from the infected humans.
