    Default Baby Z. New 240 / 250 SX?

Last week we told you about Nissan's plan to revise the 350Z and add a new, smaller RWD sports coupe to its lineup. All of a sudden, pics of that smaller sports coupe have appeared today on the interweb. Winding Road has a few clear shots of an oddly shaped 350Z-based mule tagging along behind a Porsche Boxster. The car looks a lot like a 350Z, but is much shorter overall and has spy photographers speculating it will be the Z-car's baby bro'.

Whether a new Z-car, new 240SX or whatever, it's just a mule for now. The Urge Concept is said to be the inspiration for the shape of the new small sports coupe, so hopefully future prototypes will be wearing a body we can recognize as influenced by that concept. There's no word on a powerplant for this new coupe, but we've already voted for a turbocharged version of the SE-R Spec-V QR25DE motor, just in case Nissan is listening. Hopefully it will be rear-drive, as well, but that goes without saying on a car like this. Click the Read link or the pic to view a few larger photos of this odd mule.

Headlights have a bit of a bulge to them, and they look like they dont come up the hood as much as the 350. The front bumper is a tad bit shorter, and the angle of the roof is more agressive.

Looks like a photoshopped 350Z as that roofline looks ridiculous. Defeats the purpose of calling it a different name when it's essentially a 350Z. Nissan only has two car engines so if they throw the V6 in a smaller car it will be faster than the 350Z which makes no sense unless they throw in the 4 cyl which is a pretty underwhelming powerplant for a sports car.

    It is a test mule.

The test mule for the EVO X looks exactly like an EVO VIIII but has dual exhaust.

The car is just a suggestion that something is in the works.

^^ Exactly! Just like the new NSX test mule which looked like a chopped up and elongated S2000.

I like the little Z though, it looks cool! Like a toy kind of

people really dont seem to understand the concept of a test mule. they're using a MULE to TEST the underpinnings of an upcoming product, not to display what it might look like. thats what concept cars are for.

manufacturers were sick and tired of their upcoming cars getting spotted and photographed, the camo that they add doesnt really do much, this is the newest trend and basically ensures that the final outcome will remain a secret.

If you look close enough at the pictures, it looks like they hacked a section out of the car and re-welded it. You can see a seam line along the door panel on both sides of the car as well as at the rocker panels and rooflines. So much for a "concept" car.

Most likely. It may give Civic Si a run for its money.

It would also give them a platform to spin out a convertible to go against Miata and possible S800.

Thanks for pointing that out. I skimmed the article missing that part. All I remember seeing was "Urge Concept" so I assumed that's what it was referring to. My bad.
