Reports have Dion signing tonite after the game for 5 more years. According to the report the contract is weighted heavy in his final 2 years making calgary have a large amount of free cap space which can make it possible to sign both Juice and Lanks.

Of course this is just a report that was mentioned on sports radio about 20 minutes ago so it could be complete bullshit.

the NHL claims they do it (check sticks), but photo's taken by the media have outed many skaters with obviously illegally curved sticks. Everyone in the league knows who the regular offenders are, yet rarely is anything done about them.

IE : Ovechkin whos stick is always illegal.

Exactly, just as with Luongo, the NHL is going to stick with their guns saying the check the gear. In reality, they are not going to take the stars out of the game. Take a picture of Luongo and put it side by side with other top goalies, his gear dwarfs everyones. Just as Ovechkin (and pretty much every Euro sniper) has a curve bigger than what I used to create on those plastic floor hockey sticks back in junior high.

To pipe in on goalie equipment... all equipment is checked before its used.. not every game. (A few weeks back Depietro had to change gear that hadnt been checked) And if a goalie is caught with illegal equipment they are suspended and fined... I dont think they would take that chance.

There are however ways to use the rules...
FOr example... pads can be max height of 38" high, with min 7" boot at 11" wide. Most pads have an 8" boot, but if you make that 7, you can add the extra inch somewhere else.. most goalies would have a length of say 34-36" then they add the extra 2-4 inches on top (Lundqvist prime example)
Anyways... every piece on the pad has measurements they have to fit in... there very little room for illegal mods.. just slight manipulation. (Oversized Chest/Arms, bigger jersey, etc)

Everyone has the same set of rules.. its just a matter of how you interpret them.
