Truck dead, wanna take a gander as to why?

So here's a mind bender.

Driving back from Mclean creek this morning at 4am, cruisin down the road, alls well. By the way I'm driving a 1985 GMC Sierra Classic on prope. Then all of a sudden a hear a loud pop noise, which I dismissed as a large rock against the windshield as someone was passing me at that moment. But the second I hear the pop my windshield wipers go on all by themselves. So I'm thinking hey, maybe my relay just went. So I call my buddies driving behind me asking if they got a flashlight so I can pull the fuse. Well. Here's the kicker. As I come to a stop at the side of the road the wipers slow down to a stop and then my truck dies. Right pooched. No crank, nothing. So we hook up his truck to it. Nothing, not even a light on the inside dash, yet my headlights still work!!??

So right now my beast is on the side of the road just outside Mclean and I just walked in the door from this misadventure.

Anyone have any ideas what decided to give out?? Oh and can anyone tow it back lol

Sounds like the fusible link burnt out.
There are 2 of them, 1 for the lights and 1 for everything else connected to the main battery terminal at the starter.
Because of the way the wiring is routed on those trucks, it's pretty common for it to get burnt by the exhaust.

You can pick up a pre-made replacement at pretty much any auto parts store for less than $10
