Here is my cynical side- how long until Gibson comes out with an outrageously priced Les Paul edition Les Paul? lol...you know the marketing team is salivating over this.
"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."

Sadly enough though, I can totally see them coming out with some sort of 'Legend' edition or something.
But Les Paul, 94 years. Very fullfilling life indeed.
And he was playing 2 gigs a week every week still up until last year. We all can only hope for that kind of longevity. RIP to a brilliant musician, engineer and all around decent sounding guy.

Les Paul didn't really design the Les Paul, so only an idiot would buy it.Originally posted by Mckenzie

I own a few more than 2 Les Pauls. I'm talking about a Les Paul special edition Les Paul that they'll probably make.Originally posted by flipstah

The Les Paul is a great guitar, don't get me wrong, but the reason it's named after him was purely for marketing reasons, and the reason he played them was because he was contracted to. His guitar inventions was nothing like the guitar named after him...
He added on the side parts to make it look like a guitar haha.

From what i've heard, the Original Gibson's Les Paul guitar integrated some recommendations and designs he had come up with. He didn't actually design it himself though. When it was completed, he endorsed it because he liked the guitar.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.”

But I'm sure he loved playing the LP, even if it wasn't his design.
it was marketing, he had gibson remove his name when they introduced the sg to replace the les paul, which is why you see "les paul" on some sg's
his involvement in the innovation of other aspects of music are discussed here, but it's all forum hearsay so take it with a grain of salt...

I've never bought a guitar from the states but I understand that they are cheaper down there.
Does anyone know the cheapest way I can get one of these?

Yup, Godin is made in Quebec(?) and you can check out L&M or Guitarworks then call a USA dealer to compare and contrast.Originally posted by finboy

^^ I'll call tomorrow. As far as US dealers go, can you suggest one please? Should I try Ebay?
The guitar forums I lurk on usually talk about Musician's Friend (http://www.musiciansfriend.com) and they're mostly positive reviews so you can check those guys out.Originally posted by JMaj7

eBay would be good too but unless you're saving thousands of dollars, I'd honestly spend the extra money to buy it from a reputable dealer, knowing that it'll be packed securely and safely.

Bump!
I spent the past few days going through the whole thread. I used to fiddle around with my friends' guitars and always wanted one of my own to learn on so I picked up a used electric a few months back. I'm hoping to learn a bunch of the basics this holiday.
One question: my third string keeps going out of tune, even after a few minutes of play. Is there any way to fix that?
what kind of guitar?
new strings?
Check the winding at the tuner. Make sure it's done properly, and doesn't have too many/too few turns.
Check your nut (at the end of the fretboard.
String is probably getting hung up. You can use welding tip cleaners to smooth it out a bit if it's rough. But be careful, you don't ant to chane the depth of the slot. Check your bridge saddles for rough spots too. You can use a little graphite (a LITTLE) on the nut to lube it.
A lot of people blame crappy tuners for their guitars going out of tune, but in my experience, that's rarely the problem. Tuners are worm gears, and unless they're very, very worn, it's physically impossible for the strings to pull hard enough to spin them backwards. Worm gears can only be turned from one side (the side with the peg). No matter how hard you torque on the post, you won't be able to get the peg to turn.

I have an Epi Les Paul Studio. Serial number indicates that it was made in 1999 and I know I'm at least the 3rd owner of it, so I certainly wouldn't count out the need for new strings. But I'll look into those other things. Thanks!
