ps finboy - when are your finals over? I really want to record some music... i got some basic tools, we should just record a jam session (like that freestyle we did with buddy on the drums).
a week today, i should have my cyclone back by that point, and it should have 2 lace red sensors wired as a humbucker for the bridge.

it went in like this, and myles should have it looking KIND of like this when it's done, but with the sunburst finish...

but with the neck pickup that is in there and these pickups in the bridge...

(slanted like a bridge pickup from a gibson nighthawk)

open tunings are cool too, a lot of rolling stones tunes are done on them (open g and i think open a). it does take a new mindset to put together chord work and lead work because all the notes are in new locations. Cole (Mckenzie) has his prs set up for slide work and it sounds great, but he's also not shitty at guitar like i am

i've just tried some tunings from sonic youth and some songs with dadgad (like "the fine art of falling apart" by matt good) and then try out some different simple riffs, it's basically going back to scratch for learning guitar unless you really know the neck

I have full recording capabilities at my house. I can record full beyond jams now if we ever decide to do another one.

    ^Saw your post on HC.
I just had a guitar shipped from Illinois for $60 insured with USPS. Was here in less than a week too (I was shocked).

Post back and let us know if Kurt is willing to ship USPS. If not, maybe someone should let him know that UPS/Fed-Ex will come after him for delinquent brokerage charges, and that once shipping is figured in, you can buy a brand name guitar of comperable quality up here. Maybe he just doesn't give a shit, but it never hurts to let him know why Canadians aren't placing orders.

from what i've heard he is a good guy, so i think it should be alright. i have been after one of the 12 string harms for a couple of years, they discontinued them in black, brought them back in a light blue colour, discontinued those, and now brought out a sunburst model with fake Rickenbacker pickups, which is just about perfect.

i might swap the pots, have a black pickguard cut, and do one thing that most 12 string guys forget about rickenbackers...

    standard stringing

    rickenbacker style

notice where the bass and octave strings are, small differences that can affect sonic qualities

Anyone know what effects John Frusciante is using for the intro?

Sounds like a wah petal with very little distortion on the amp.

Might be an envelope filter or auto-wah as well. You hear them a ton of funk records from the 70s.

I usually change my strings quite frequently, so I don't think I kept the anti-rust set on long enough for me to reap the benefits. I tried one set of them, and didn't notice a difference. I'll be sticking with my Ernie Balls, thanks.

the set of Elixirs I have on my SLS is about two months old now and they still sound totally brand new, have no corrosion, and are as slick and nice to play as Ernie Balls are fresh out of the pack. I'd say they are totally worth it, I don't use anything else anymore

i wear out coated strings at roughly the same rate fatigue wise i think...its just that you cant tell theyre done cus they don't corrode

i don't know if' i'd call this a problem but with coated strings you can keep thinking they're good but then you eventually just notice they sound flat and don't tune up well, i think it also depends on your playing style, bending a lot will wear them out regardless of whether or not they are shiny

That sounds pretty killer. I like that guys voice actually. He's kind of a Maynard Keenan thing going on.

For sure, that's the kind of guy I was looking for.. but at the same time I wanted somebody who sounded different, and honestly I didn't think of a guy that sounded like this, but I was sold when I heard his audition (that clip therE)
