    to all you DIY'ers

    I'm going to be in the Akron, Ohio area in 2 weeks for work and realized that Stewart-MacDonald is going to be a 20 min drive from my hotel.

    If there is enough interest, I can pick stuff up at the stew-mac warehouse and save on shipping charges (will have to pay ohio sales tax tho)

    let me know.

    I was just wondering what your opinion and experience is on the matter.

    Thanks.

    I have also heard of issues with neck warping over time as the whole weight of the guitar (which can be a lot if you have an all mahogony, non chambered les Paul) hanging from the weakest point of the neck. Definitely looks better than an upright rack though

    I've read of that concern but also heard a counter-point that the force of the string tension on the neck far exceeds the weight of the guitar body.

    String tension can also cause neck/bridge issues, my 12 string is a prime example, it is pulling the bridge off of the body, lol

    Hey guys,

    I don't really know anything about guitars but I picked up a Fishman Matrix Infinity Pickup for my sister's Acoustic Taylor. I was wondering where would be a good place to get it installed? I don't really care about the price, as long as the quality is top notch as this particular guitar has a huge sentimental value to my sister and thus don't want to do anything to damage it.

    Can, but not at all common, especially on a solid body electric.

    Your string tension is going to be ~150-180lbs on an electric. Even a super heavy guitar only weighs maybe 12-13lbs.
    While the neck near the nut is usually the weakest point, that only applies to a bending force. Hanging your guitars puts that area into tension only. The "strain" of hanging guitars by the headstock applies such a tiny, insignificant amount of force on the neck that I fail to see how it can have any impact, especially considering the forces involved are parallel with the neck (so they should help keep it straight, if anything). If your neck warps "because" you hung your guitar, your neck would have almost definitely warped anyways.

    So what's up for today? Are we playing or are we on a hiatus until Zippy gets back?
