I wondered what was going on... (eg. "Did I piss Kerry off somehow?" scratches head)

Hope to hear from you soon and we can get the lesson plans back on track.

    Alright... since you asked.

    How about Eruption?

I know, that's probably cliche, but can you play that one note for note?

so for those wondering about how else a quarter can be used for a pick, check this out...

    WARNING: RADIOHEAD CONTENT

note jonny greenwood (the guy with the tele)...
that is likely the new boss space echo pedal, lots of reverb (probably electro harmonix of some type), and then volume swells and general shaking of the guitar. good audience sounds

you can here it quite a bit in that song too, mainly w/i the first minute and thirty seconds.

I've seen it before. It's sick. And it looks fucking effortless.

You probably don't want to see it, it'll make you wanna quit playing .

I will make an attempt to play it. I managed to dislocate my thumb last night and guitar is pretty damn hard right now hahahaha.

Inzane, I might be in Edmonton in a few weeks here but we'll see.

Recorded a new tune.. decided to tune even lower than I usually do and produced this piece in drop A, entitled "minnesota mullet contest"
    http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6514465
Then all my fucking patch cables stopped working, and the only one that still works, doesn't fit in my S7320 because of how the jack is set into the guitar. So its not even half done.

You can send it to Mike Learn. He does a lot of Jackson's NAMM customs and his rate is pretty good considering his reputation. You could also try the Sims Custom Shop, they are a place in the States that have done some cool stuff. If it is especially intricate though, Mike Learn is your safest bet.

I'm not looking for anything that crazy in detail. I'm thinking of doing a GTA4 theme guitar haha. Cartoon characters... hoping someone local can do it.

When I first started learning how to play, it was purely muscle memory. Only problem is I could only remember 1 or 2 solos at a time cuz there was so much to remember. Now, I learn solos by listening to them a lot so I know how it's supposed to sound note for note (for example I memorized how the whole freebird solo sounds). I know a few scales, so generally speaking if I know where I'm starting, I know approx which note is next based on how I remember it sounding, and just remember a lot less because I sorta know where in the scale the next note is. My goal is to be able to think of a note and know exactly where on the fretboard that note is, that would make life so easy.

Kerry can do that, but he does it differently (I think anyways haha). He remembers key parts, and improvises around the key parts, and it sounds damn close. It took him 5 mins to learn the whole end solo for Paradise City. It's not note for note, probably even better than the original.

Depending on the solo I will learn note for note or just make my own madness up.

IE: I play the Bark At The Moon solo note for note, as well as the crazy train one when I truly feel like it.

But as the big boss said I'll play the Paradise City solo as my own.

Really the best way to remember how to play a solo is to listen to it a lot. If I'll go out of my way to learn something I'll listen to it way too much and then once I have the song memorized it's much easier to nail the solo.

That's my own fucked up way of doing it though!

classical gas is a lot of notes considering the amount of time, only suggestion i can give is as kerry mentioned, throw it on your ipod, go to work, and have it on loop for 8 hours

    Possibly stupid question time:

Is there any easy way to tell when it's time to restring a guitar? After 4 months of being played a few hours a week, the strat is starting to get some weird buzzes that weren't there before and it's not holding in tune very well any more.

uhh, strings are corroded and dont stay in tune, they also feel and sound a little dead, the rule of thumb i try to follow is once a month, but if you play or gig a lot i would change every 2 weeks/prior to every gig

Or you can get Elixir coated nanoweb strings.. they last about five times longer than normal strings. The ones on my Jackson right now are about four months old and still sound and play like they did right out of the box.

I'd been looking at the elixir strings actually, seems like a lot of people really love them. Time to pick up a set methinks.
