    Default installing deck into mr2

So I have been searching for a stereo harness for my JDM MR2 and have yet to find one. Any suggestions as to where I might be able to get my hands on one?

If not does anyone have a clue what the wires represent on JDM cars. There is 1 and 2 dots on different wires to represent + and - but I don't know which is which or if the same colours correspond. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

have you checked all the stereo shops? i know this may be a long shot, but check canadian tire, they have wiring kits, look on the back, see if your car is covered. Other than that, a&b sound, Future shop, Sounsaround? they all didnt have it?

Ya I stopped by bestbuy, future shop, a&b sound and visions. Some had harnesses but they didn't fit the stock wiring... premium sound system harnesses are a pain in the ass to find. I think tomorrow I might be calling Audio Concepts.

    from the diagram.. looks like
    the Gray wire is accesory
red is hot at all times
    brown is ground
pink and blue goes to front left speaker
green and light blue goes to front right speaker
black and yellow goes to rear left speaker
red and white goes to rear right speaker?
    that's probably all you need

Im assuming all JDM cars came with the premium sound system. Mids/tweets in the front, 2 rears on the side walls and 1 sub behind the driver seat. Now unfortunately if you wire in an aftermarket deck you loose the sub because there is no way to wire your new deck to the fact amp. The only way to make it work with the stock speakers is to buy a harness that comes out of japan or england, its a total plug and play. IF you go to mr2oc in the stereo section there is a link to the site that sells it, its great because its plug and play. I lucked out and got one from a buddy who had it come in his jdm toyota landrcruiser. The other option is to get an aftermarket sub and amp and rewire it all accordingly. I would stick with the stock setup until you find the harness and or are ready to shell out the cash for a whole system.

You can technically get a ticket for each window that's illegally tinted. So as above, if you're being an ass to the officer (or if he's just an ass to begin with), he can give you two. (or three tickets if you're dumb enough to tint the windshield of your BMW... but if you own a BMW you can't be stupid right?)

all the wiring diagrams posted are non amplified toyota colors and won't help you behind the deck, amplifier is located under the left b pillar, and those colors would be on the output side of the amp, as someone said you would lose your sub this way

Post pictures of the connectors. I'm VERY surprised that you couldn't find a harness for it. I've worked on a lot of Toyota Stereos in cars ranging from 86 through to 02, standard systems, prmium amplified systems, JDM, USDM, ALL of them had the SAME wiring harness. I used to keep a stock of random Toyota radios, and used to swap them back and forth in various cars for testing purposes.

If its premium sound, it would probably just be easier for you to "rewire" the car, lose the sub, and be done with it.

Run new wires to your speakers and power/ground/acc. Done.

I'm in the same boat bud, and trust me, it's a headache. I'm actually going to have someone install my stereo because I don't want to dick around with the premium setup from the MR2.

I did this for my 91 MR2 with the premium sound system. Basically you have 3 options.

Option 1: Leave it all stock and fock it, it's too much work.

Option 2: Re-wire the whole car using only the existing Power, Ground and Ignition Power wires from the factory harness. This means you will have to re-run and re-wire the wires to your factory speakers, add a isolater that splits the sound to your front speakers and tweets and also you will loose the use of the factory subs and amps. A lot of work but it has been done - ask Clem24 about this. Shitty thing is ripping ALL the panels off to run new cabling.

Option 3: Build own aftermarket harness. This is what I actually did.

Anyways what I did was build my own aftermarket adaptor/harness. I did this by picking up some parts from active electronics on 32nd ave and radio shack. If you choose this route, this is what you will need.

    Two sets of RCA's
    Wires
Male and Female 15 pin harness
Aftermarket deck that has 2 RCA (Front and Rear) Outputs.

Sounds like a lot of work but it really isn't. I was able to utilize the factory amps and rear subwoofer as well.

I have a write up for this at home somewhere, I'll find it and email to you, just PM me with an addy.

If you want to try this, let me know and I can give you a hand with it. Labor wise it is less than tearing the whole car apart running new wires. But it is tedeous.

Major thing you have to know is that for the speaker ground coming out of the factory premium setup, there's only 1 wire for ground so you'll have to splice 4 wires into to build more grounds for the Negative RCA's. Just make sure you find both postive front speaker cables, twist them together and then mount them onto the postive (red) RCA cap.

That's pretty much it.....questions? Let me know.

I did this and added a double Din Pioneer head unit. Sh0ko and 03Whip weren't there for the inital build but they did see and hear the system afterwards. Super clean install and I was able to keep the factory wire harness intact incase I wanted to sell the car. Also gave me the option of changing and upgrading decks when I wanted to.

Is it just me or does anyone else find the stock sub on the MR-2 useless anyway? It's like 3 inches big isn't it?
