Not too fond of that orange, the black would look nice! If this car handles anything like the MP3 it'll be a pretty nice car! A friend of mine has an MP3 and its pretty stable when cornering at high speeds! great car.

damn mazda's coming back with some fierce competition  that's one fine looking ride... damn better get on the wait list fast!

Shit, there's only 49 users here, I doubt we'll even break 100
that looks sweet. Except the Orange.
Remember that blue one at the Prelude meet? That was nice.
Wonder how much it will cost?
How quick is this new 170hp turbo motor?
The orange paint is kind of tacky but this is perhaps the best bang for your buck car out there

Cost i would assume should be around what the MP3's sold for but a bit more due to the turbo unit
If this car gets some good aftermarket backup it should be a blast to see what this thing can do

It looks like it's 170hp to the wheels based on the description. Stock was 140hp right? I'm sure a turbo install would boost it more than 30hp.
BTW - I drove a friend's MP3 last year, the thing does have really nice handling.

hmm... if that's the case gotta go out and TD one of these bad boys.... i really like the handling of the imprezza, but i mean mazda's seems to be good bang for buck!Originally posted by rage2

EDIT: now if only they start producing AWD
Those are sweet cars, my friend wanted to buy one, and had the money, but they were too damn rare! Except for having a weak engine, they are really nice cars! Motor trend did an article on the best cars for under $25,000 (U.S.) and I it walked all over the competion in alot of categories, of all the cars they tested in 2001, the ONLY car that did better than the MP3 in the Slalom was the Porsche 911 GT2! thats pretty damn good!
"Car Manufacturers give us a well engineered basic car but leave it's real development to us."
Well what did you expect? Mazda gave racing beat the car and told them to go crezzy For those of you who don't know, racing beat is one of the leading handling tuners for mazdas in the US. They do A LOT of business with the road racers and autocross people.
2000 units for US and canada. these cars will probably get sold out before they get to dealership floors. 170 WHP. thats not bad considering they rated the power at the wheels.
does anybody know the numbers for the mp3 i am curious how many they released bc this car is so greattly improved over the mp3 it will sell even faster if they dont increase the production numbers.
Damn 170whp?? That's more than my car!Originally posted by 2000impreza

And mine!! Well, I should be driving a "family" car anyways Whatever the price will be, it will still be better-priced than any other import car in the same class... I guess technically, since the RX-8 has 4-doors, IT'S a family car too right??:duh: :woot:Originally posted by buh_buh

i believe there was only 250 mp3's that mazda sold in canada. it was to test the waters to see if there was a market for that type of car.
1000 of the mazdaspeed protege for canada and the US. Canada will probably only get ~300 cars
EDIT: after reading that again i think they mean 170bhp not whp. sorry guys.Mazda selected Callaway Cars, Inc. to assist its engineers in taking the Mazda 2.0-liter DOHC I-4 engine to a much higher performance level. Pumping up the MAZDASPEED Protegé's heart rate is a Garrett T25 turbocharger system. The turbocharger incorporates the latest in aerodynamic and ball-bearing technology. With Garrett technology on board, the vehicle gains increased acceleration without sacrificing overall efficiency. Delivering an estimated 170 horsepower solidly to the ground is a Tochigi Fuji Sangyo KK Super Limited-Slip Differential, assisted by larger 24mm driveshafts (versus 22mm for the standard Protegé). Mazda also added a heavy-duty clutch disc and pressure plate to handle the increased horsepower from the turbocharging system.
