Default Taking minors out of the country

Want to know what kind of paperwork is needed to take a minor (16) out of the country. My gf sister wants to come on vac. with my family, but we dont know what we need to bring her with us.

Does she need her parents signatures to apply for a passport? There was something about a letter with signatures from both parents stating that they give their permission for the child to leave. Up to what age do you need this?

My gf is over 18, and her sister is going to be travelling with us (same plane etc) if that makes any difference.

    Thanks

if she's 16 I dont think u really need any permission, well written wise all she needs is her passport and she can go with you guys .... unlessss the law got more strict... who knows i could be wrong but im pretty sure u dont need no written permission.

I just don't want to get to the airport and get stopped because we dont have a letter with signatures giving permission.

Her parents said it was ok for her to come, we booked, now they say she can't come. Thing is, because its already booked, if she cancels she will be loosing money.

I dont have any official info, just some first hand stuff. Back in the summer of 05 we took my little cousin(lives in BC) to India with us. As far as I know all we had was a letter saying her parents gave us permission to take her along, and it was signed by both her parents. The only time we were asked to show the document was when we were leaving here from Calgary and when we arrived back in Calgary. We had stop overs in London and Dubai on the way there and then london again on the way back, and were never asked about anything at any of those places and even when we arrived in India, only when we were leaving and arriving back in Calgary were we asked for it. Anyways I think all you need is that signed letter.

Bring a signed letter with you and call it a done deal. If they ask for it, then you got it with you, if they dont, then no need to worry. Better to leave for the trip once your at the airport then having to return to get a letter signed.

So what were you guys planning to do? Sneak her out in the trunk in the middle of the night?

Yeah, that'll go over well. Won't in be nice to be on vacation somewhere, then the local police show up at your hotel and throw your ass in jail for "kidnapping"

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

No, her parents wont report anything like that, and we were planning on bringing her like we had originally planned (on the plane, in a seat) but because you only need to be 16 to get a passport, I wanted to know if you are over 16, if you still need parental/guardian permission.

Read through the link, and it seems geared more towards younger children, and children with possible custodial iussues. As I mentioned, because she is able to get her own passport, she "should" be allowed to travel by herself regardless of parental consent. Is this correct?
