Wow, Prius City. Interesting for an area where you expect to find lots of tech-money makers.

Silicon Valley = people who don't like spending money on gasoline I guess.

just because 300+ of the same exotic didn't get registered doesn't mean that they aren't bought there.

Pricey real estate = long commuting distance + access to carpool lanes.

There's a LOT more high-tech nerds than there are tech-money makers.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

"Read original post properly"? You should try that.

In case it was too long and confused you, it says:
These are the top 20 in registrations in Santa Clara county so far in 2007.
Keyword is "registrations". We are talking about cars registered not purchased. Also, this is about Silicon Valley not a county 70 miles away like Santa Rosa or Oakland.

    Please, read original post properly.

benyl, Tik-Tok: Good point, didn't think of that. Also, maybe the local residents don't necessarily work in the area. I think still though it speaks to a trend towards fuel efficiency and environmental concerns. Priuses (sp?) aren't the cheapest compacts and the money made back is over a semi-long term --- definitely a "thinkers" car, thinking about long term, money well spent, and concern for the local conditions (ie. smog).

Diamond lanes (carpool) is incentive enough for most Californians to buy a hybrid. Coupled with the fact that you get between $1,500-$3,400 in Federal tax credit, Prius is a "smart" purchase.

Having driven in Los Angeles, it made me want to get Prius badges for my Supra, if I were going to live in CA.

not anymore, only past hybrids issued with a carpool access stickers are allowed now. they stopped giving those stickers out to new hybrid owners due to the sudden jump in new owners. so any hybrid with those stickers on add an additional 2k in value.

i've seen this video where it says that google gives their employees 5k towards a hybrid car if they were to purchase one, so maybe all those other companies in silicon valley are doing the same?
