    Question Debit Card Question

I went to American Eagle with a friend about a week ago, but I forgot my wallet in my car so she paid for the both of us on her debit card, and I paid her back later that day.

But I changed my mind, and want to return the unworn item that still has the tags on it. I have the reciept she was given as well. If I go to return them, can they just give me cash, or will they only refund the money on her debit card?

Not needing her debit card would save me a lot of driving.

Any info would be great as I also dont want to go to chinook to find out they cant refund me.

In store credit unless you have the exact debit card you used to purchase the clothes.

Fuck you guys are probably right but I really hope not. First I'm gonna have to go to the NE to pick up her debit card, Secondly I know shes gonna turn this into another shopping trip where she comes along and my whole Wednesday will be shot. In store credit at a place like AE is useless to me, I dont know what I was doing there in the first place to be honest.

That doesnt make any sense to me, isnt debit the same as cash when it comes to retaillers? I mean with a credit card I could see why, but with a debit card, they have already gotten the cash in their merchant account, its not like this could all be a big ploy to rip them off.

It will just need to go back on A debit card in general or they can refund it in cash. Same idea with credit, the general rule of thumb is that credit must go back to credit and cash will have to go back to cash.

Yeah I don't think you have to worry about the exact card just as long as you have A debit card...

That doesnt make sense to me though. What is the difference between refunding cash to a different debit card or just giving me cash?

Reason being I dont have a debit card right now(lost it a while ago and never got around to getting a new one).

No. It MUST be refunded onto the same debit/credit card that was used.

you should be able to have it refunded on any debit card...they might even refund back onto a credit card...cash will depend on how much the amount is...best bet is to call the store and find out...

Debit card goes back to debit card. I can't actually imagine many stores that will check the the debit card number unless you mention to them that you weren't the original purchaser. If the item is unworn and still have tags and you have the receipt, the clerk won't care.

Woah woah, I didn't say anything about the AE stuff. Just found it weird you lose your debit card and don't get it replaced right away. Didn't mean to imply you were trying to rip anyone off.

Usually most retailers will require a refund to be done on the same type of tender as the original purchase.

Where I used to work we just cared about it being on the same type of tender as opposed to if it was the same card.

    If it's debit it's debit, if it's a Visa then it's a Visa....etc.

The reason why most stores won't give you cash back even if you paid debit is because it still costs them money every time they process a debit transaction. See those machines that you use to put in your PIN number and account information, they aren't free for the retailer........

Just call her and ask for debit card numbers and pin #.
They can do refund manually even if you don't have a card with you.

Lots of companies just don't want to refund in cash if they don't have to or you could use them as a "ATM" sorta. It's not that they can't refund you in cash, they just don't want to. That's how it is with most places anyway. But if you present your case and bitch enough. They'll most likely give you cash. Worked for me at Futureshop.
