Since its an auto, were you in first gear when you reved it?
Or was it parked?
I am not bashing you... But I have to rev my car all the time,
it helps it go.. Is fine to take it to the RED once in awhile..

g2forlife, it was in park. Thanks for all the advice!
100% no harm.
redline is there to protect your engine, its still very safe to rev to redline.
especially in "park"
exactly, no load even on the engine in park.Originally posted by TurboD

your car is fine dude. this thread is unbelievable...
actually revving to the redline in 'neutral' or park is worse then when the car is moving because you are accelerating your engine components much faster then they were designed to accelerate (in gear). but yeah, here and there once in a while will do no harm.

i beg to differ, when there is load its always gonna do more harm vs no load
With my Automatic IS, when I pin it, it goes right into the red - 6300 rpm then changes to the next gear automatically. When I use the M-Mode, it lets me go a little further but the engine management kicks in the rev only lets it rev so high. Samething with my MR2 - Manual i could rev to the red but the rev limiter kicked in to protect the car. Samething with my E46. Red is good as long as it isn't prolonged - held there for a long period of time.
my car loves being rubbed til its red... err wait, no thats just me.
