Default BHPhoto help.. and a rant portion

Well I ordered a package from BHPhoto on the 16th, 3 day UPS.. It got caught up in "adverse weather conditions" which pushed it's delivery date through the weekend, and landed on Monday morning..

So before work I called UPS, as I checked the tracker online and it said couldn't get shipping details, shipment sent back to sender.. Apparently the zip code was wrong, not sure where it got screwed up, but it's now somewhere and nobody can give me any info..

I called BHPhoto last night when the tracker said it arrived in NJ, and when I noticed it was signed for, delivered, to Brooklyn Navy Yards today.. I tried calling BHPhoto again - only to find out they close at 2pm est.

    Awesome.

I've called the tracking line and it just says it was delivered, I can't talk to anyone. I've tried the live help chat program on the site, and even the 1-800 number on their main site says it's not in service..

Anyone else have problems contacted BHPhoto ? This is the first time I've purchased anything online for my camera, and the first time using BHPhoto .. They told me last week that my order needs to be paid for again, only the shipping part, rather.. That's only like 10$ US for a 2.7 lb for 3 day so I'm not too upset about that - I am however pretty pissed off that it wont get shipped now till at LEAST monday, if I can even get a hold of them, and at best I'm looking at Tuesday for it to actually be sent out... Which means that Friday I may receive it... But if theres anything wrong again, I'm looking at another monday delivery..

I'm just curious to know what's going on and if I'm ever going to get my package, UPS can't help for shit, and when I asked them about perhaps getting some sort've rebate or reimbursement as it was screwed up so bad, they told me to call BHP.. So I did and they said that they can't do anything because I web-ordered it, not phone-ordered, so I'll have to suck it up and pay the shipping again...

It was meant to be rush shipped back to me with the corrected zip but I guess it didn't happen, seeing as it was also meant to get to BHP by wed, and it arrived at 10am today.

Anyone else know what I should try? The earliest they're open is Sunday 10am...

Anyone know of any other place to buy camera gear from.. with maybe more normal hours in case of mishaps like this? ha..

What were you trying to buy?

Seems odd that you have to pay for shipping again, if THEY screwed up...

Kenko AF extension tube set, 12, 20, 36mm.
Hoya 52mm UV, Circular Polarizer, Warming Filter.
    B+W 52mm Screw-in metal lens hood
    Nikon CL-1120 Soft lens pouch.
Nikon HB-33 Lens Hood (Bayonet) for 18-55mm lens
    Nikon filter pouch
Nikon 50mm Prime f/1.8d AF lens.

I don't care about shelling another 10 dollars to get my stuff.. I just don't want to wait another 10 damn days, I want this stuff sent a bit quicker, maybe with some sort've guarantee that it'll actually get here this time.

Wow, that's quite a bit of stuff...I was going to say why not just order in Canada, but I can see why you wanted to go to B&H. I would try to talk to B&H and get them to ship free since they messed up.

I have never ordered from an online US retailer, I really heard good things about B&H...

I hope you ship UPS Expedited and NOT UPS STANDARD. UPS Standard will charge $30+ for a brokerage fee when bringing into Canada.

    Good luck,
    Andrew

I did UPS 3 day, I'll be doing next day air from now on - it's worth it to get it a day later instead of 3 weeks later.

I didn't ship to Canada, I shipped to a place 30 minutes drive away, to save myself the 14% tax at my door, plus the 30 dollar brokerage fee, plus the extra 15 to ship it into Canada.. I figured it was worth it to save the 100+ dollars, and that's factoring the cost of picking it up and the gas to drive.. ha.

I really wish I went with a better shipping option, the 30 dollar shipping charge would have been so worth it compared to the headache..

    Well, lesson learned.

And they wont do shit as it was apparently a "web error", not my or their fault - they can place the blame on me saying it was my fault for not typing it in correctly, or they can say "we can't prove it was our systems..." Or they can just say "Well, we'll look into that, thanks for your input, but if you want your shit, belly up 10 bucks for the shipping again."

    Bah..

There is your problem right there.

There are no brokerage fees when you ship air.

Yes... and some unknown brokerage fee.

When you ship air, as in the case with UPS Expedited, the shipping price includes brokerage so there's no funny surprises, something UPS is full of (among other things). Then the only additional thing you pay when you pick up your package is GST, and in your case PST.

On a related note, I had also placed an order with B&H on the 16th late in the afternoon and it arrived on the 19th.

I have ordered several items from B&H in the past and have never had a problem.

Like Benyl, I have always shipped by Air as all the fees are included.

I rather buy locally if possible, but when I save a couple hundred dollars it's hard to justify payign the extra to go local.

You would pay that bringing it over the border anyways.

Unless you were planning on smuggling it in and risk getting caught.
