Default Damn...bought a HDD DVD -R in HK.. and it doesnt work here!

Short veriosn of story..I was in HK a few weeks back... was shopping for a HDD DVD-R (tv/dvd recorder) and this saleman guaranted me this unit would work... (Philips 250gb HD recorder) I get it home, and the RF coaxial cable is different then the north american one!!
I exchanged emails with the manager of the store (Big chain.. was in Harbour Mall) and he agreed to refund my money if I shipped it back. Here's the kicker... the cheapest shipping quote thus far is $87.00! This isnt bad in comparison to the 230 that UPS quoted, or 150 that Fed Ex quoted... but still sucks.
Dont suppose anyone has a TV fro HK that they would be looking for a new HDD/DVD-R??? Special deal for you!!

I am currently asking the manager if he will help cover shipping costs.. but I doubt that they will.

    Anyways... end of rant.

We essentially have a pin for our plugs while their plugs are big fat round ones right?

I have a couple for old vcrs like that and we have these plug adaptors that converts the different sizes. The kicker is, I'm not sure where you can buy those adaptors here... Maybe The Source, or I would acutally try Video and Sound cuz they sell a lot of imported equipment there...

Anyway, I'm sure those things are only a couple of bucks at most, for sure less than any kinda shipping!

Well first of all because its cheaper.. and depending on what you buy the products arent available here. This isnt my first time.. and hadnt had any problems before. Keep in mind this was from a high end Electronics store.. not some street vendor. No different then buying from any brand name store here.
I found someone that spoke very good english, he just apparently didnt have enough product knowledge.

There are also lots of counterfeit electronics in HK as well.

Is that a Phillips with one L or two?

The Coax is for the input from the cable box....There is an HD output from the box. (I dont know much about this... only that the input woudnt work)

After thinking about it... I am gonna go ahead and return it. Shaw has a deal going that you trade in an old Satelite reciever, and they will give you a free 120gn HDPVR and month of service.
That is unless someone wants it for 320 (Paid $400) and they can deal with the cables.

Coax is fully capable of transporting HD signals... which is physically plain electronic frequencies anyways. It is the receiver (in this case, his hd-dvd recorder) which decodes the HD signal, then sends it over to your tv. This connection between the receiver and TV is where we need the HDMI/DVI/Componet cables.

Man, that was a major "People Powered" flashback from back in the days...
