Default Travel to US: Visa Required?

I am planning a week-long trip to Hawaii starting Sept. 1, having just gotten my passport a couple weeks ago. I've been a Canadian citizen my whole life and have not ever travelled outside of Canada, except once to get cigarettes at the duty-free shop.

AFAIK Canada is not on the Visa waiver program. One friend says I need a Visa and that it would take a week, my other friend says Canadian citizens travel visa-free to US (he has gone to Florida in the past month). The Calgary US consular office currently states a wait time of 30 days for a Visa interview, if this is true and I do need a Visa I am screwed.

For the record I have visited the site below, along with many others. The thing is, I am getting conflicting information from everywhere regarding Visa's for Canadian citizens, and my head is about to explode .

The US consular office is closed until tomorrow, but if anyone has any information until then that would be great. It would also help to just be armed with some information so that I can perhaps take work off and visit them in person if I think it's worth it.

    Thanks!

Not planning on using a travel agent just yet, been reading horror stories on the internet haha. Will likely book tickets myself.

General consensus around people I've asked seems to be that I don't need a visa being a Canadian citizen. Also forgot to mention that my friend who says I need a visa is in Australia for the summer, perhaps that made her say I needed one?

From the sounds of it, all you need is your passport. From my experience, as long as you're not planning on working, or staying there for an extended period of time (ie. school) you should be fine. I think the maximum time you can visit the US at one time is 30 days, otherwise I think that's when you'll need a VISA

If you're just going for vacation, no visa needed.

All you need to get into the US (last time I checked Hawaii was one of the 50 states in the US) is your passport.

Really the only time you need a visa is for certain countries. I know whenever my parents go to India they have to get a visa endorsed by the Indian Consul General in Vancouver and have this stamped in their passport.

Technically, your passport is your travel VISA to the United States so long as your sole purpose is recreation and you stay in the country less than 30 days.

hey, i have to spend money and use my vacation days lol

So everyone has said passport only. Something I've learned today is, don't listen to people who travel a lot for travel advice

So you got it confirmed that you don't need a visa? I didn't think you should...I think the US only requires them for countries that don't require them from our citizens. So where are you going in Hawaii?
