    Default Another Calgary BMW opinion

Just wantd to know if anyone else has had a similar experience, seems there service is insanely expensive. Here are a few quotes I got for my US 2004 M3.

Oil change $260 (seems steep but whatever)
Stage 1 inspection with oil change $1200 (seems insane)
Change Odo to KMs $360 (I've heard crowfoot has done for free)

I also have a slight rattle in the door speaker. The car is under warrant but i guess rattles are only covered for 1 year. Regardless they will charge $200 an hour for "diagnositic" then if its under warranty they don't charge the $200 and fix it, but if its not under warranty you pay the $200 and then get a quote for a fix. Just doesn't seem fiar given the car is under warranty.

Is crowfoot any better or both pretty much the same?

Just curious, why don't you change the oil yourself?

    probably warranty I would think

Pinoyhero, that sounds insane for those prices. I would go to crowfoot, I think they are more reasonable

Yeah I could but really, I'd prefer to have the allure when selling that all work was performed on the vehicle at a BMW dealership, I've done it with all my cars.

Both are owned by the same person, I doubt there would be much difference in prices.

When did the free service thing come in? Does you car not qualify for that?

US warranty is transferable. The Service agreement is not.

I paid $120 to have my odo in our x5 changed from miles to km's (i'm assuming your talking about the digital reading and not the actual whole cluster). It took the technician 5 mins. This was at crowfoot

oil change on my 2002 m3 is only 180, inspection 1 is around the right price... carefulwith these service advisors there not the smartest and they work on a comission basis.

If your not covered under warrenty then why don't you goto Alpine Autoworks or Shenni's Autotrend? Both shops have BMW Factory Trained techs and know what their doing and at a much better rate then the dealerships *not to mention the fact they are skeesbags either, yes I may have made that word up*

You would be sick if you saw them chang the ODO to KM's for $360 - it seriously takes 3 minutes. I watched my buddy that works there do it on my car

I second my vote for using Sheni's.

They are excellent and sheni is a master bmw technician, if Im not mistaking, from England.

Don't expect to cheap out on the M3's oil change. If you want your extended engine warranty to stay in effect, you have to use the BMW specific oil. The oil alone is $140 haha. They do charge $60 for the drain plug which is pretty insane, after labour and taxes my oil change (Calgary BMW) costed me $280.

The only oil approved for the motor is Castro 10W60. It's only used by BMW on the E46 M3's I6, the new M5's V10 and most likely the new M3's V8, therefore, it's only available at BMW dealerships for ripoff prices.

^^ That's unfortunate, cause that is in no way the best motor oil for BMW engines.

He didnt say best for BMW engines.. but best for those engines, which I imagine is quite different then most others. I dont see how a full synthetic 10W60 could be bad...

that price seems so ridiculous. I am getting my e46 m3 soon from the states, im going to ask the dealership to change it over before i import it rather than spending over $100 to get it done here, mind you there is no bmw dealership in Lethbridge, i would have to drive 2 hours for service

haha, and then you have to leave your car at BMW for 3 days for them to do an oil change. Enjoy!

BMW *will* be picky with warranty if you dont use their oil, so until your warranty runs out, I suggest getting it at the dealer.

You can buy the oil cheaper online, but dealerships won't let you bring your own oil. You can try and get it done elsewhere, but keep all receipts. IMO it's not worth the hassle saving $100 at time.

Oh, and if your car is still under the service plan, oil changes are free in the US.
