Default Not able to connect to http

    Hi guys,

I'm having a problem with my internet on my laptop. I'm able to connect to any site that is https but not anything that is http. I can't figure it out. OS is Vista Home.

https is a more secure version of http, in short, clear your SSL state and drop your security down.

IE -tools , internet options , content : clear SSL slate
tools , internet options , privacy : set to medium
tools , internet options , general : clear cookies, history, internet files.

    close IE, try again.

If not, disable your norton/mcafee/symantec/AVG as it's more then likely restrictive to an extreme. With all that closed and changed, try to browse again.. If you can't, come back..

Hmm, it's not just IE specific. My Firefox is the same way. I've completely disabled McAfee and it's still not working. I can't connect to MSN or 98% of the internet. All https sites are working...

My guess is something is blocking port 80 which is the port for http. Since you say its the same deal with firefox, its most likely your router or firewall.

https is port 443...is the problem just http related or are you unable to use other applications that utilize an internet connection. Since you are able to resolve webpages that use https I dont think its a dns issue.

I`m having the same problem on my laptop. I can only use messenger and that is about it. My IE and Firefox will not work, they only come up with a screen saying something about they are unable to connect to the webpage or something those lines.

I tried to do a system restore and my computer will not allow it to be done, so I am thinking it is a virus or some sort..

Anyone else have any other suggestions before I resort to reformatting the damn thing.

And if not, anyone have a XP home disc kicking around? haha
