07/2009 - 07/2021 - Give your pups a big hug, a long walk and some extra dinner. It goes by so fast.

    Sorry for your loss.

My husky passed away in January (10/2006 - 01/2021). I still get teary eyed when thinking about her. Got to spent a lot more time and take care of her because of covid.

Aww man... Sorry to hear this, Mike. Noa was pretty freaking awesome. My eldest kid still talks about him, 9 years later when we dog-sat him for you. Condolences bud. RIP.

Condolences for your guys' loss. I hate seeing shit like this and it was the biggest reason why I avoided getting a dog for the longest time. Well it's been done now and I dread the day when he won't be around already and he's only 3 months old right now.

Sorry for your loss @zipdoa . I'm not looking forward to that day. My pup is about 14 months now, upto 80something lbs. Crazy how fast time goes by.

    All the best man.

Spikers' pics really took me off-guard. Dummied. Thanks for the comments everyone - we've all been through the process, and cope in our own way.

I'm not afraid of the inevitable end, as I believe the purpose of life is to enrich others and be enriched ourselves. I can't think of more virtuous pursuit than giving your time and love to a living thing just for the sake of it.

As the saying goes, everyone believes they have the best dog in the world, and they're all correct.

My oldest kid was crying in bed so I went to check on him and see what's up. He said, "When I was sad, I used to be able to lie on Miyuki..." Damn, I didn't need to hear that this morning.

Fack, one of our Shibas is 12 years old and I'm not ready to let him go yet lol.

Dude is markedly slower than he was last year.

Get him checked ASAP. When our Husky slowed down over a year, we figured it was just age. Turns out he had a pancreatic cyst we didn't know about because asides from slowing down he didn't show any signs of a problem. Until he fell down the stairs and went into toxic shock.

I'm not saying we would have spent thousands to get it removed, but I at least would have put him down sooner so he wasn't living in pain.

My bulldog died in Nov of 2019 and if I can give any advice it would be to not rush into getting another dog right away. I rushed into getting another dog to fill the previous spot and it made me resent her for any fault that she has. (and has a lot of them, argh) Doesnt help that the wife changed the parameters (No shedding, no drooling) but really regret not waiting longer.

Mine was similar. She had a seizure while on a regular visit to the vet. She was 12 at the time. Scan showed a growth / cyst in her abdomen. Blood work show some signs where her liver was working harder than it should. Vet said if left untreated probably a few months left. Or if treated (as in check what exactly is the growth and remove by surgery), maybe a few more months. So we decided that instead of having her go through surgery and pain during recovery, we will just adjust her diet and be careful with her. She continues as if nothing has happened, similar energy for her age, and gives me the stare when it is time for her meals or treats. One and half years later, noticed that her abdomen is more bloated, and she is eating less and starting to have issues getting up with her hind legs. Loss a lot of muscle mass

Anyway, after a few more months of rice and various minced / ground meat for meals (4 times a day... smaller portions each time) and carrying her up and down stairs and to outside for bathroom breaks, the fluids (likely from the growth / cyst) in her abdomen subsided and she became this skinny girl. A week or so later, she passed away at home while sleeping beside me (been sleeping on a mattress on the floor for a while taking care of her for the past couple of years). Mine lived passed the average for huskies and she didn't showed any signs that she was suffering until maybe the last couple of months. Even then she didn't like me carrying her up and down the stairs. Stubborn girl.

Not sure if this (growth / cyst / cancer) is more common for bigger sized breeds. But it is good to get regular checkups and maybe some bloodwork done. If the bloodwork showed some abnormality, then go for a scan.
