It’s an extremely long story, we are working through some really debilitating dominance and aggression with him unfortunately.

He’s a very sweet guy and crazy smart and capable, but he’s just not in control and very capable of hurting someone.
Gooooood luck... as I mend my finger from the 4am bite when moving the German asshat cross off my knees when I was sleeping in MY BED... when he is supposed to be on the floor, and at the age of 5.5 has zero excuses for his behaviour. It’s like he just gets worse

Timely but things have just progressed into getting worse since I even posted.

After multiple behaviourists and 2 vets have told us point blank he is dangerous and needs to go after weeks of intensive work with him, we have made the decision today that he’s going back to the breeder. Final straw was him turning on my wife and trying to attack her. The breeder has a farm where he will have a good life And they have confirmed he won’t be euthanized or rehomed so he won’t be at risk. So that’s what I have in store for tomorrow.

Needless to say, today is a really bad day in our household...

Sorry to be a downer in a happy thread, he’s my whole world right now and today is just a really really bad day for me. I’ve had deaths in the family that hurt less than making this choice.

I’ve struggled with this dog for 5yrs now. The other dog is absolutely perfect, both raised side by side... my advice is do it now, it will hurt, but not as much as it will years later if it doesn’t get better... both emotionally, but also I mean the actual fucking pain!!!

I should have shipped him out on day one... when he locked onto my arm at 6 months and wouldn’t let go

My current trainer takes dogs that have hurt their owners for full time rehabilitation and she is telling us he needs to go, says he is completely unsuitable as a pet.

It’s a really hard time being with him because of course he’s acting like an angel right now, despite that we know it’s his last night with us.

But fact is we can’t have guests, can’t go anywhere, my wife has damn near quit her job so he can be stimulated all day. I wake up walk him for almost an hour, work all day, take over the shift from the wife. We have tried damn near anything aside from drugging him.

It’s time we just don’t want to accept it. I haven’t felt this way since we had to put our last dog to sleep after 14 years.

It is tough. While I have never had a dog like that, I have seen them. They are usually really sweet, but just don't know how to relax, or fail to realize that they can't bite everything.

You have my sympathies man. I can only begin to imagine how hard this is for you.

Really sorry to hear that man. I think it’s a good decision given the circumstances but I know it must be tough to go ahead with.

Really sorry to hear man. Hard decision but you made the right one. Ours had a bit of aggression towards other dogs when she was a puppy but after some reactive training she's gotten over it which im really relieved about.

Sorry to hear that, I grew up with shepherds and they all have such different personalities and temperaments. Kudos to you and your wife for doing the right thing.

We had to put down our 13year old dog right after Christmas, and last week we decided we are going to foster, today we picked up this guy.
