Fuck EJ Rescue. They can rot in hell.
Oh really? I don't know them that just popped up on my feed when we were searching for rescues online, We ended up getting a pup from BC ourselves... What is the scoop with these guys?

edit - Our Last Hope Animal Rescue out of Princeton BC was who we got ours from. Great experience but a ways from here of course.

EJ just has a very bad reputation of being dishonest about their dogs and their health and vet records and such. If you look them up and keyword with Calgary you'll see all the people who have had issues.

We got this little (80lb) lady from AARCS.

They were great to deal with, although we did it during COVID and procedures were probably different back then.

Does anyone have a good dog sitter for my Ex wifes two little dogs- preferably somewhere closer to the core?

Humane society has dogs. I'd consider that a "rescue".

Maybe this isnt the right place, but how do these "for profit animal rescues" work? Are they really "rescue" operations?

What's a good one look like?

Yikes, those poor animals are now saved. I started looking into rescues locally and IWARS seems to be legit (Infinite Woofs). I'm gonna check out the Humane Society for adoptables as well.

I noticed you might be up here in Edmonton. We got one of our sweet little girls from WHARF. Easy to deal with, reasonable adoption fees (~$500 for ours, and she came spayed) and just overall a great organization.

    Bumping this up.

Finally was ready to dabble myself in the foster game and got to watch these 2. Got to babysit Bucky for 2 days from his foster, then he ended up getting adopted the last day he was to go back to his foster, but ended up with my own foster Bridgette, his sister which is half the size of her brother. No idea what breed they are as they are rescues but Bucky looks like he has some St Bernard in him but the female, no idea as she doesnt look like the brother at all. Both are 4 months old. Total opposite personalitys. The brother was a total menace and pure land shark the 2 days. The female is a total sweetheart and calm and really growing on me. I might be a foster fail if she keeps it up.

Didnt realize how many rescues there are in Edmonton its crazy. GEARS. WHARFS, AARCS, SCARS, IWARS (these 2 are from them)

Yes, there is an infinite supply of neglected pet dogs. It's a terrible situation.

Not to be racist but in Edmonton alot of the rescues we're taking are from Native reserves, specifically Alexander First Nation

For sure. There's something odd about the ratio of Indigenous folks and what everyone else deems to be irresponsible dog ownership. I don't know why this propensity exists, but it's pretty tough to deny and it's not a new phenomenon.
Animal rights groups come in and scoop these dogs up to save them from starvation. But this is politically correct, because dogs...

The vast majority of rescues from Native Reserves are not ones that are people pets... It is feral dogs that have never been owned by someone as much as the offspring of dogs that were never neutered or spayed and spread their seed all around with other dogs that run wild. I mean I guess at some point someone owned a dog that ended up feral, but most of them are just wild dogs. Sad but true, many of them are too wild to be adoptable and the reality is it would be more humane to cull them.

I have two reserve dogs… but got both young. They’re old AF now and are great, but was painful to get there. Hearty genetics though. Super low maintenance health wise

All the rescue dogs we adopted are from reserve. They are some of the best behaved dogs we have had. Maybe because they appreciate the second chance more. I don't know.
My friends wife goes up north to the reserve to rescue dogs. It is a thankless job.
