My exact thoughts. Looks like base model with the GX "phone dialer" 14" rims.

does it have an aluminum hood?

It can be a registered GXL as I had one when I was in NB and everyone said I was a liar.. but on the reg it state GXL, was the same thing.. no sunroof, aluminum hood, 4bolts wheels, power steering, it even had the factory GXL stickers on the front fenders.

I even hitchhiked to the library once cuz my parents were too lazy to drive me haha. Ya, I'm a nerd.

I have owned several RX-7s, and I hate to break it to you, but that car in the picture is not a GXL.

Here is the spec sheet from Mazda regarding the GXL. The GXL is the fully loaded non-turbo model, so it comes with pretty much everything. Auto, leather, rear seats and alarm being the only options.

Check it out if you still don't believe me.

Here is a brief list of what is missing from a GXL model from what I can tell from looking at the 2 pics.

    1) 15" 5-bolt Alloy Wheels (you have 14" 4-bolt)
    2) Reclining Bucket Seats with adjustable headrests
    3) Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel
    4) Power Windows
    5) Cruise Control
    6) Sunroof
    7) AAS (Automatic Adjusting Suspension)

In any case, I have forwarded this thread to someone that may be interested.

Hm I flipped through the folder, and amongst the other almost a good 1cm of maintinence papers and notes I couldnt find anything about a rebuild, but I did find all the oil and fluid changes, man the guy before me was hella consistant - almost every 2nd month in some cases!

I did change the ad to remove the GXL tag, sorry about the mix up Ive had a few people tell me it was an FC GXL guess thats not right lol.

Anyway thanks for the interest guys,
    Spencer

There were some mutt models of that year of rx7 as well...

i had an 88, it was 5 bolt rear end, but it was open diff...i had never heard of that before. It had power windows, cruise sunroof, NO LEATHER.......very strange...but it was a gxl, said the tag, and the decals on it.

Yours however is a GX for sure. Good luck with the sale.

The GXL does not have leather standard, it's an option. As for the open-diff, maybe it was a busted LSD, in 88 it is a clutch-type and could be blown. That car from the limited description fits the GXL trim.

Not sure about that as every GX I have seen and owned at least had a sunroof and power mirrors (controls are missing in the pics).

Seems like a base model with center console (rear bins?) and phone dialer rim upgrade. Nice thing about the base model is that it's super light and very tossable and is what some people look for.

as well this will help out a bit for the people worried about mileage i had a gxl (not same model as yours) but same engine with 189,000 kms when i got it and ran it for another 50,000 and no rebuild and still ran strong. this engine should have lot's of life left in it.

    Hey guys,

Little more flexable on the price - had lots of interest, but nobody to look at the car yet!

    Thanks,
    Spencer
