    Default Running without EGR??

Hey guys. I had my header installed and due to some fittment issues we didn't reconnect the EGR pipe to the header. Is there any issues running this way. I know the purpose of the system is to lower temps and NOx emissions. But, does it harm the engine in any way??
    Thanks

lower temps? that's something new...anyways yeah it's fine to run it without and that's from personal experience...on a stock computer however you will get an error code but you can ignore it...most if not all aftermarket computers completely ignore the EGR. What you have to do however is block the egr! Removing the egr is actually a good thing coz all that junk that flows back in your manifold will just mean more carbon deposits on your intake manifold. It'll actually WARM the engine if you think about it coz it's shooting in exhaust gasses that should have been going out your tail pipe...

    1. E.G.R. lowers combustion temperature which lowers oxides of nitrogen pollution.
    2. E.G.R. is not used at idle. (Would cause very rough or no idle at all.)
    3. E.G.R. is not used on cold engines in most cars. (Would cause poor, cold driveablity.)
    4. E.G.R. is not used at wide open throttle. (Would cause loss of power.)

I found this on one of the websites I looked at. So it seems to lower the combustion temperature even though it pumps some exhaust gas back into the intake manifold. I guess running without it wouldn't be a big deal except that I am polluting more maybe

the thing about egr is that the exhaust gas being routed back into the intake manifold displaces fresh air, which means less o2 in the intake charge. less o2 = less burn = lower temps = less power.

of course, the difference it makes in power is minimal.

yes reduction in power IS minimal...the carbon buildup on the other hand is NOT...yeah you'll polute a little more...plant a tree in your back yard to make up for it or something

The EGR valve mainly lowers the combustion temp cuz it limits the amount of fresh air u can burn im sure your better off without it

fresh air is a lot cooler than exhaust gas!

uh yea it is, but it burns a lot hotter because fresh air contains more oxygen than exhaust gasses.
