I think that only works if the light source if relatively near. For sunlight, which is essentially at an infinite distance, the angles of the light coming off each edge of the object (the edges of the shadow) are parallel, so the actual size of the shadow on the ground (or bottom of the lake) is the same as the size of the object. But, since that shadow is a greater distance from the camera, it appears smaller than the object.Originally posted by Mar
Larger. The closer the blocking object is to the light source, the larger the shadow. But it does seem right, whenever a plane 370 feet up goes overhead, the shadow seems about the same size as a plane. I think it's more the logs that give it away.
