The best part (and probably part of the reason I was blinded) it reminds me a lot of my first bike!

This post brings back so many memories. My dad had an 84 XL 600R that he bought brand new, and eventually replaced around 2010 with a new Husaberg

I grew up on a '85 XL100 just like the one in your pic as well.

Great choice for a cheap dirt bike purchase

Love the BW. TRD we will have to go for a big wheel adventure, not many people who have them anymore!

Love my Fat Cat, that thing will go through absolutely anything.

And the KTM 144sx for track/single track days.

Nice! My first bike was an '87 XR100R. Lots of good memories.

XR's are known to be jetted awfully rich from the factory. Don't waste your money on a JD kit either. Thunpertalk has an entire section devoted to XR's and Blackfoot and Bow cycle both stock mikuni and Keihin jets.

    This.

I've seen more people injured idling their bike or quad up ramps than I have out on the trail.

That looks nasty Cos, hopefully it's nothing some ice and a few beers won't heal.

Grab your jack handle and slid it over the end of the bar... Should be able to bend them back

My FX4 isn't lifted but it sits pretty high, I just use a homemade ramp and "take a run at it" from About 6 feet back. Never have I used the engine to actually propel the bike up though. I also have that built in tailgate step so it makes life a lot easier.

I use two ramps spaced apart, one for riding the bike up, the other for walking alongside.

The most important part is wearing the proper footwear for metal ramps (running shoes, not MX boots). Before attempting this I'd recommend first being able to walk alongside the bike, that way you'll know how much clutch action to use. Roll it to the edge of the ramp and clutch it up as you walk along the other side. If you stall it you can slowly back down and try again, or use e-start if applicable.

With practice you can make 1-person loading easy. Of course, perform at your own risk or have a second pair of hands to help if you aren't comfortable on your own.

Got out to the track yesterday to break in the bike

edit: For loading, I use one ramp, my gear box as a step, and get a rolling start. And I wear shoes after taking a header using my MX boots. Try backing up to a hill.
I rode up the ramp once, scared me too much to do it again.
