Is the court battle between the "owner" and the actual guys that came up with the idea still going on?
I remember hearing about this on the radio some time ago, I guess nerds do prevail

Revenues of 100 million per year?
what does facebook even do to generate revenue, seriously, does anyone know? It cant be all from advertising.

they also have those stupid little gifts... which, oddly enough some people do buy... despite their ridiculous nature...
^^ Why not? Every single page I look at on facebook has 2 or 3 bits of advertising, and there are millions of people on facebook also seeing that adverstising. I think it's entirely plausible.
42million active users to be exact.Originally posted by Melinda

They make money by selling our information to companies, like how many teens between 18-30 like action movies, or what are there favorite activites, stuff like that. People dont realize when they sign up, they basically authorize Facebook to use their information for stuff like that. Same when you add applications.
Hey, if that makes more action movies come out, all the power to those "behind the scene" surveys hahaOriginally posted by natejj

IMO as long as they arent selling personal info (Name, address, ph#'s, email addy's etc) - who cares.
Also i dont allow a lot of those retarded applications like "fun wall" or "super wall" - imo those are pointless and just make the pages look like clutter... and honestly look like messy myspace pages. I liked facebook when it was plain, simple, and effective

One thing that worries me about facebook is employers checking out your page when you apply for a job. But then again, I don't have anything too incriminating on my page. No drunken debauchary pics or anything.Originally posted by 403Gemini

I agree with you on those stupid funwall and superwall applications. They look tacky imo. Facebook was a good change from myspace and nex because it had a much more clean look to it.
Everything I'm not made me everything I am...
Pretty sure the owner can sell anything he wants, it's a privately owned website and you willing give up all that info. I don't remember seeing anything that said your info wont be sold.Originally posted by 403Gemini

haha i have my boss on my friends list but he's a classic guy, and i've hidden all my "tagged" photos from EVERYONE so not even my friends can see em. Also i made myself private on the calgary network so only my friends can see my page.Originally posted by HybridTheory

Seriously tho i dont get in too much trouble at all but still, lets face it - everybody has "too much fun" sometimes and its weird how the internet used to be all about privacy 5-10 years ago, now its all about exposing yourself. If anything we lost our privacy
Integrity. I would HOPE they wouldnt sell it... of course they can... it's like having naked pictures of ex girlfriends, should a person spread those around? (Okay, maybe wrong forum to be asking this on... haha) but you know what i mean.Originally posted by B20EF

They release a new gift for sale everyday with limited quantities of 1-10 MILLION!!! At a $1 each minus the cost of production (~$10) you can see how this is money money. The ad revenues are MASSIVE. Its not only local ads, but companies that start their own sponsored groups like Sony, Toyota, Universal, etc. Can you imagine how much these companies pay to get the exposure that facebook can get them.
I just wish it would have stayed simple/clean like it did when it first started. I'm starting to really get annoyed with friends who add all the FU**** apps and it takes forever to find pics or even their wall. Right now I have 54 app requests, and it gets annoying to watch it grow everday. Still, Facebook is the best connection tool ever.

I have to agree with most people, but honestly who puts their phone number and address on there? If you are that stupid then they should sell that info.
I find it funny the people who setup events for parties at their house and include their address, just asking for things to get outta hand

My list of random For Sale (some free) stuff
Only my friends can see my personal info, acquaintances get a limited profile. Events at my home address would be fine, I don't have asshole kids for friends.
lol I didn't even know they did that, some people.Originally posted by 403Gemini

Its not even necessarily that. I could be under your acquaintance list, and you could have another friend on your full profile. If they join your "event" then it shows up under my "News feed" that e-mack Arif has joined your house warming event. I click on the event and BAM i see your address and everything you posted without even getting an inviteOriginally posted by ZorroAMG

Im PRETTY SURE with the events you can make private though... im not 100% as ive never held an event and would never advertise it over facebook haha
